  1. Apologetics – The Study Of Evidences Lesson 1 Faith Is The Victory!

  2. Why Study The Subject Of Faith? • Christians and the young need to be grounded in the true principles of Biblical faith! • Agnosticism within Christianity. • Under Assault From Atheists!

  3. Misunderstood Nature Of Faith • “I have found it necessary to deny knowledge to make room for faith.” • “One must let go of his rationality in order to make a passionate commitment to God.” • “Absolute, final knowledge beyond which there can be no greater, would not leave room for faith.” • Webster: “firm belief in something for which there is no proof.” • “No one can positively prove God.”

  4. Necessary Conclusion • “To admit that Christianity is only probable is to admit the possibility that, in fact, it might be a hoax…imagine even the slightest possibility of an apostle preaching the God of probability or the God who may be”?

  5. Why Do Men Believe As They Do? • Arguments have been offered in its support. • It was encountered in a book or paper and nothing was spoken against it. • Common belief in one’s cultural environment. • The new belief fits well with our prior beliefs. • There may be penalties for not accepting a belief (social ostracism, disappointment to parents, torture, etc.). • A belief is accepted because it gratifies us or answers a psychological need.

  6. Which Does God Accept? 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.

  7. Rational & Irrational Belief • Irrational belief is based upon: emotion gullible habit inadequate reasons prejudice vested interest

  8. Rational Belief Is Based On Reason! • Isaiah 41:21 “Present your case,” says the Lord. “Bring forth your strong reasons,” says the King of Jacob. • Philippians 1:7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. • 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. • 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;…

  9. “Belief That” & “Belief In” • Many have a ‘belief in’ but not a ‘belief that’. • Apologetics or evidences deals with ‘belief that’ which provides foundation for ‘belief in’ which saves us! • If I only have a ‘belief in’, then my commitment is no different than a commitment to Buddha!

  10. Faith & Knowledge/ Inseparable • John 4:42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.” • John 6:69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” • John 17:8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.

  11. 1st Gospel Sermon • Acts 2:16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: • Acts 2:22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— • Acts 2:32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

  12. What Is Biblical Faith? • Understanding of what we claim to believe. • Reasons for that stated belief. • Ready to act according to our stated belief.

  13. Phillip & The Samarians • Acts 8:5-12 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. 6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city. 9 But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great,…

  14. 10 to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God.” 11 And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. • Understanding • Reasons • Ready to Act

  15. Are You Ready To Act? • Jesus ‘The Christ’ lived, died and rose from the dead! (Understand) • 1 Corinthians 15:6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. (Reason) • Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (Act)
