  3. IMPORTANT! There is a $500 non-refundable deposit for this course.  Students who register for the course and then withdraw will not be eligible for a full refund.  Please register for this course only if you are SURE that you can attend. 
  4. Sunday July 24 10AM - Class meets at the Haas Promenade for a geographic overview of the city, including both Jewish and Arab portions. Hebrew University on Mt. Scopus ShaulShenhav– Lecture on the Israeli Political System Efrat SLEEP IN JERUSALEM
  5. Monday July 25 Knesset - Home of Israel's Parliament YochananPlesnner (Kadima) Ahmad Tibi(Ta’al) The Israel Museum - Second Temple Model - Shrine of the Book MeromBenvinisti / GadiTaub SLEEP IN JERUSALEM
  6. Tuesday July 26 Organized tour of East Jerusalem emphasizing the points of conflict between the Israeli state and Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem. Includes visits to Arab neighborhoods and the barrier wall. Lunch in East Jerusalem A walking visit to the Old City of Jerusalem, including the Arab marketplace, the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Evening - Dinner and a Movie SLEEP IN JERUSALEM
  7. Wed July 27 8 AM Depart from Jerusalem Massada Lunch and Dead Sea 3 PM Leave for Golan Kibbutz visit and light refreshment MajdalShams SLEEP IN GOLAN
  8. Thursday July 28 Wake up in Golan Lecture and discussion about strategic value (observation point Hermon) Lunch and Winery Arrive in Haifa Lectures Stella Maris talk Minority relations Walk from the Carmel to the Lower City SLEEP IN HAIFA
  9. Friday July 29 Leave Haifa for Ceasaria. Back in Jerusalem: Lecture/ discussion on Religion and the State OPTIONAL - Dr Roth will lead interested students to see Friday night Jewish services welcoming the Sabbath at the Western Wall.

  11. Estimated Costs AIRFARE July is the peak travel time for Israel and fares from the United States to Israel (TLV) will cost around $1500-1700. INSURANCE Students must purchase travel insurance if it is not provided by their current health insurance carrier.  This will likely cost less than $100. HOTEL / TOUR FEE Students must pay a $1500 fee to JHU.  This will cover hotels and breakfasts, charter bus, entrance fees, guide fees and tips. FOOD Breakfasts, except in Majdal Shams, are included in the hotel fee.  Lunch and dinner will need to be self-funded, and students should expect to spend at least $30 for meals per day. TOTAL ESTIMATED COST (not counting tuition): $3380
