  2. Interim Reports by August 2003Some statistics • 16 Interim Reports received • Maps: 323 EU 25+, 26 EU 15+, 40 AC, 13 World • Many territorial typologies and indicators • Numerous ideas for policy recommendations • Altogether, more than 3318 pages….

Interim Reports by August 2003General impression • In a short time, substantial preliminary results and new knowledge have been achieved • Guidance and common platform has worked; further development and implementation shall continue • Good quality and useful outcomes, however differences among the Interim Reports • Close dialogue needed towards Final Reports and next Interim Reports

Interim Reports by August 2003Challenges for the next phase • Digest preliminary results (Seminar, TPG, MC, ECP, EC and CU) • Enhance networking and the internal consistency between TPG • More analysis combining typologies and indicators • Improve cross-analysis of maps (include CC, CH and N better) • Further development of TIA, SWOT • Continue building the ESPON database and GIS • Ensure further coordination of terminology and design

Interim Reports by August 2003Challenges for the next phase • Clarify basic mind of thinking on policy recommendations • Improve 3-level approach to balance and polycentrism • Include a clearer concept on territorial cohesion (from 3CR) • Enhance a communication strategy based on preliminary results • Improve data availability • Integrate additional projects and TPG

  6. First Policy RecommendationsPurpose of the session • Open the discussion between policy makers and projects providing policy recommendations • Aims: • Clarify a basic common mind of thinking on policy recommendations • Well targeted policy recommendations in Final/IR

THE NEXT PHASETowards next Interim Reports • Dialogue with TPG on draft CU responses • Coordination activities planned by 3.1 • Lead Partner meeting in February 2004? • Interim reports in February 2004 (1.1.4, 1.3.1 and 1.3.2) • Guidance to reports will call for: • A well elaborated executive summary • Improved consistency between projects • More combined analysis and results • Clear 3 level approach to conclusions and policy recommendations • Common design implemented
