  8. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • All sites are open until 6:00 pm, and students are encouraged to attend for the duration so as to not miss out on homework time or any of the fun and exciting enrichment/recreation activities which will be planned • Participants who have three (3) unexcused absences may be dropped from the program. Participants who do not attend school on a given day, may not attend programs on that particular day, i.e. stayed home sick, school suspension

  9. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Sign-In • Participants need to sign-in to the program directly after school • A student is signed-in as soon as the participant enters the designated sign-in location • Reason for absence, of each absent child, will be verified by Site Leader to ensure the safety of each child not in attendance. • Site Leaders will contact parents/guardians to inform the child is absent from the program. Please let your Site Leader know if your child will be absent by calling the site phone or the Parks & Recreation office at (916) 617-4620 or the designated site cell phone.

  11. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Late Arrival/Early Release • The City of West Sacramento understands that situations do occur that cause students to need to leave early or miss a day or program. The bulleted items contain examples of excusable reasons to sign out of KidZone or Club West early or missing program. • Parallel Program (school sponsored activities, Girl Scouts, sports leagues, etc.) • Medical Appointments • Family Emergency • Illness • Parental Choice- picking your child up daily before 5:00 pm is not grounds for daily use of parental choice.

  12. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night Late Pick Up Programs close at 6:00 pm. If a child has not been picked up by 6:15, the staff will contact a parent/guardian. If an authorized adult is unable to be reached and the child is not picked up by 6:45 pm, staff will notify the proper authorities. Parents will be required to sign a late pick up notice, after each late pick up. After five (5) late pickups you will lose your position in our programs. If you are going to be late picking up your child, you must notify your site leader.- Effective Monday, September 26th.

  13. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night Waiting List Both programs are extremely popular and for that reason many sites fill up quickly. Once programs are full, waitlists are started. Due to the nature of our program positions are filled based on grade level availability and not necessarily first come-first serve, we reserve the right to handle special cases accordingly.

  14. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night Snacks A nutritious snack will be provided to students during the program. Snack is provided by the Washington Unified School District and is delivered to the site daily. Please notify your Site Leader if your child has any known allergies. Additional snack is not necessary; however, if a child brings their own snack, students will be allowed to eat during snack time. If this becomes an issue your Site Leader will speak to you.

  15. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night Components Each program includes three inter-related components: homework assistance, enrichment curriculum and recreation. Each program utilizes a Teacher Site Coordinator to ensure that the school day curriculum is aligned with that of the after school program.

  16. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • The Academic Component: • Provide an extended learning environment by aligning activities with what students are learning during the school day. • Guide students with questions to answer homework problems. • Provide transition activities for those students who are completed with their homework.

  17. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Homework • Homework assistance is only a portion of the Academic Component. • Neither program is a homework club nor designed for students to always complete homework. • Family members will want to check their child’s homework for completeness and accuracy as we cannot provide one on one assistance to each student.

  18. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Homework • Students receiving packets for homework will be provided an hour on Tuesday & Thursday to work on their packet, staff will use energizers and quick games to break this time up. If there is no school on a Friday, homework time will be on Wednesday instead of Thursday. • Students receiving daily homework will be provided 30-45 minutes daily • Homework time will typically begin in the middle towards end of the program. • Students remaining in the program at 5:30 will condense in one central location and will be given additional time to work on homework. • Our staff are unable to check each child’s homework daily, please continue to check your child’s homework for accuracy and completeness. • If you prefer your child not work on their homework at KidZone/Club West, please discuss with your site leader.

  19. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • The Recreation Component: • Recreation consists of a range of activities from physical exercise to group games to craft activities. • We encourage participants to get a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity on a daily basis. • Recreation is another way for students to develop communication and social skills. • Activities can be tied to reinforcing subjects or standards.

  20. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • The Enrichment Component: • Enrichment is designed to provide opportunity and choices for children that they are not regularly exposed to during the school day. • Enrichment should be engaging and fun for all students. Nutrition GARDENING sCRAPBOOKING Dance Character building Music Art Drama

  21. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Parent Agreements Enrollment: Enrollment is limited. Our hope is to accommodate all children wishing to participate in KidZone. After receiving all completed forms, the Site Leader will contact you to let you know if your child will be in the program and when their first day of the program will be. Attendance: Regular attendance is required. Children who have three (3) unexcused absences will be dis-enrolled from the program. Students attend program only when they attend school. You are required to provide a signed note when your child is absent from KidZone.

  22. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Parent Agreements Student Pick-Up: Children participating in KidZone must be signed out (signature required) by you or someone chosen by you (for instance, a relative or friend) over the age of eighteen. Your child must be picked-up promptly at the closing of KidZone, 6:00 pm. If your child has not been picked up by the closing of the program, KidZone staff will try to contact you and/or those individuals designated as emergency contacts. After 45 minutes, the proper authorities will be notified. Children may NOT walk home. After five (5) late pick-ups your child will be dropped form the program. Parental Support: KidZone & Club West staff are committed and qualified to run this program, but to make it the best that it can be, your support and cooperation is needed. You are an important partner in our program’s success.

  23. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Behavior Policies • Behavior Report Guidelines: • When a behavior issue arises staff will use the methods above to defuse the situation. If the behavior issue persists, staff will have the child take a “break” from the current activity. If the behavior issue continues after taking a “break” then a Behavior Report will be issued. • 1st- reviewed with the parent/guardian and signed by both the parent and child. • 2nd - the child will be sent home for the remainder of the day and suspended for the following attendance day.

  24. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Behavior Policies • 3rd -the child will be sent home for the remainder of the day and suspended for the following two (2) attendance days. In addition, the parent/guardian must attend a meeting or participate in a conference call with the Site Leader, Recreation Coordinator or Supervisor, and the Site Coordinator to determine a behavior action plan for the child. The child should not be present at the conference. • 4th - the child will be sent home for the day and expelled from the program for one calendar year. After one year has passed the child may be allowed back into the program with the Recreation Supervisor’s permission, pending availability. If your child is suspended or expelled from the program you must pick up your child from the site within 45 minutes.

  25. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Behavior Policies • To maintain our commitment to safety and providing an enjoyable place to be for all participants we reserve the right to drop a participant at anytime for the following reasons: • Non-cooperation by the participant or Parent/Guardian. • Physical contact or verbal confrontation towards another child or leader by a participant or Parent/Guardian. • Inappropriate/explicit behavior towards another child or leader by a participant or Parent/Guardian.

  26. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Health & Wellness • Children who are ill or have a contagious disease (i.e. chicken pox, pink eye) are not allowed to attend KidZone or Club West while infected. We offer very active programs and if children are too sick to participate in the full program, they need to be kept home. If your child becomes ill at program you will be notified and must arrange to have your child picked up immediately. Please notify the staff if your child has been exposed to any contagious disease or condition (measles, chicken pox, lice, etc.), so we can notify other parents immediately. You will also be notified in the event that your child is injured.

  27. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Why is attendance so important? • For the 2008/2009 school year we did not meet our 75% attendance goal for 4 of our school sites (Bryte, Elkhorn, Stonegate, and Westfield) • We lost 36% for Bryte • 51% for Elkhorn • 37% for Westfield • 27% for Stonegate

  28. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Why is attendance so important? • Attendance goals this year is 85% daily at each site

  29. KidZone&Club WestParent Informational Night • Why is attendance so important? • If we fail to meet our attendance goals- we will lose more funding. • For the 2009/2010 year, we took a very hard hit of $177k reduction from our overall grant. • Cuts include-staff incentives, staff conferences, meal for parent nights, no increase in supply budget, minimizing extra expenditures. • We have applied and been awarded for some money back, this will go towards an increase in staffing costs and overall costs of operating the program.
