  2. Mozart’s Background • Born in Salzburg, Austria in 1756 • Should have had 6 siblings, but only had 1 • All of his family were musically inclined • Leopold (his father) noticed Mozart’s musical talent at a young age and began to give him lessons • Died at age 35

  3. Mozart’s Musical Experiences • Age 3- Mozart’s father encouraged him to play instruments (violin, organ, and piano) • Age 14-Mozart had the ability to listen to a performance and copy it down from memory

  4. Characteristics of his Music • Harmony • Order/balance in his songs • Speed and accuracy • Ability to hear songs, then write them down from memory

  5. Musical Pieces • Symphonies (40 and 41) • Operas (Don Giovanni, Marriage of Figaro, and the Magic Flute) • Concertos (mainly for piano) • Piano sonatas
