  2. What is the DCCP? • A voluntary collaborative effort among government, civil society and business • A platform for integrated planning and decision making • A means for organising action on city-wide mitigation and adaptationinitiatives www.durbanclimate.org.za

  3. The DCCP’s Vision “To encourage responsive, prosperous and sustainable communities in Durban, by addressing the impacts of climate change on our City, and enhancing opportunities for a low carbon development path” www.durbanclimate.org.za

  4. Objectives • Support, facilitate and/or endorse climate change projects and initiatives • Facilitate knowledge sharing and awareness raising on climate issues, projects and events • Provide input to relevant policy and planning processes • Encourage the rapid implementation of priority opportunities www.durbanclimate.org.za

  5. Activities • Provide technical or other assistance • Facilitate the implementation of key sector actions • Support communication, outreach and awareness raising • Source appropriate funding for priority initiatives • Comment and provide specific feedback on policies, legislation etc. • Facilitate synergy and knowledge sharing among various climate change related initiatives in Durban

Examples of Current Action Items • DCCP to act as reference group for development of City Wide Climate Change Strategy • DCCP to form sector based working groups in priority areas (e.g. water, energy, transport) • DCCP to host specific open forum meetings on topics such as the Climate Change White Paper and community adaptation efforts www.durbanclimate.org.za
