Identity and belonging

To be honest, I’ve spent most of my life trying to figure out who I am, trying to find myself. So far, I’ve had no luck. I still don’t know who I am, or what my purpose is. Every day seems pretty meaningless, and the days go by like I’m just waiting for them to end.

I’m probably the most pessimistic person I know, so don’t be surprised if this presentation sucks ass; my life isn’t as entertaining or amusing as everyone thinks it is. Apparently I’ve got countless ‘friends’, in which none of them even shake my hand afterschool, let alone holla at me on the weekend. I live in the same house with both parents and my brother, and we somehow still remain distant each other. It’s like we’re all in our own worlds, but still under the same roof.Back to the topic; if I don’t even know who I am, how am I supposed to know where I belong?

“I wish I had more, so I could give more.I’m headed through life finding out what live for.” – Dizzy Wright

Identity and belonging

I don’t have many hobbies or interests. I don’t really find anything interesting; I probably have anhedonia or something. But if I were to make a list of things that even slightly interest me, it would probably be:

- Writing music, occasional poetry.

- Playing piano.

- Watching movies/shows.

And those aren’t even hobbies; it’s all just procrastination, time wasters, distractions, gap fillers.

  • Morals I believe in are:

  • Keep your promises.

  • Stay faithful and committed to your partner.

  • Give second chances.

  • Have patience.

  • Respect yourself before you demand respect from others.

  • I was brought up a Muslim, so I believe in Islam…atleast I think I do. Lately I don’t know what to believe in.I guess I have faith in something; I just don’t really know what it is.

Identity and belonging

Who am I? I don’t know.Where do I belong? I don’t know that either. But the only place I feel I even remotely belong is with her. At times when I’m not myself, she’s always there to remind me of the things I am, instead of the things I’m not. At times when I feel lonely or abandoned, she accompanies me, and gives me a place to come home to.When we argue, even about little things, I tell her she’s right, even if she isn’t; because winning an argument isn’t worth losing her. Her happiness is my happiness, and my happiness is hers. My positivity stems from her love.

Identity and belonging

And the fact that someone can make me feel that way, tells me a lot about my identity and belonging. Perhaps it’s not always about where we belong, but who we belong with. The people in your life shape who you are just as much as values, interests or beliefs do. If the person you love doesn’t give you a sense of belonging, then I don’t know what does.Maybe my purpose is to be with her, maybe my purpose it to make her happy, who knows, maybe my purpose is to be her purpose.
