  1. Article: Online-devices.com UNDERSTANDING INDUSTRIAL RELAY BOARDS What is a relay? In simple words, it’s an electrically operated switch. Industrial Relay boards are generally used to handle high voltage in any given circuit. Where is it used? Relays are used where it’s necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal and it is important to ensure complete electrical isolation between controls and electronic circuits. Relays are commonly used where several circuits are needed to be controlled by using one signal. One of the most common usages of a relay is to protect excessive flow of power in a predetermined direction. The history of relays goes back to the times of telegraph. It is often claimed that American scientist Josef Henry invented relay back in 1835 to improve the version of the electrical telegraph, which was developed earlier in 1831. However, the official documents claim that it was Edward Davy, an English inventor who actually invented the electric relay for the electronic telegraph in 1835. The first relays were used in long distance telegraphs as amplifiers. Their job was to repeat the signal coming in from a circuit and re-transmit it on another circuit, it simply added to the strength of a signal. These days however, relays are extensively used in automated manufacturing units and telephone exchanges with tools such as relay control software and USB applications. Applications of industrial relay boards Relays are used for realizing logical functions. They play a very critical role in providing safety and priority logics. Relays are used to control high current circuits with the help of low current signals. Similarly, they can also control high voltage circuits with the help of low voltage signals. Relays are used to provide delay functions. They’re used to time delay open and delay close contacts. Relays can also be used for protective purposes. Through this function, all the faults can be detected and isolated. There are many kinds of relays available out there like DPDT relay boards, Ethernet relay boards, solid state relay board and the like. Before selecting one, you should definitely understand your specific requirements. Whenever you need a relay, look for standard ones with all regularity approvals. Different protections like contact protection and coil protection must be noted. Coil protection helps in reducing surge voltage produced during switching. Contact protection helps in reducing the process of arcing in circuits that use inductors. Look for required isolation between coil circuits and contacts. Look for required switching time. Ask for high frequency relays if you want one. Look for what rating is needed? There are current as well as voltage ratings. The voltage ratings vary from 300 – 600 volts. There are high voltage relays also with a rating of around 15000 volts. In the case of current ratings, they may vary from a few to about 3000 amperes. Make sure what type of contact you need? Whether you need a NO, NC, or closed contact. Selecting an effective industrial relay board is not an easy task, in case you need our any help or guidance; please feel free to visit us at Online-devices.com.
