  2. Common Names • Animal-like Protists—Protozoa • Plant-like Protists—Algae • Fungus-like Protists—Slimemolds

  3. Unique Traits • Eukaryotic • Lack tissues to be classified as Animal, Plant or Fungus • Most diverse kingdom • Can be auto or heterotrophic, uni or multicellular, and microscopic or very large

  4. Major Phyla • Animal-like—heterotrophic eaters, unicellular with locomotion • Plant-like—autotrophic, uni or multicellular • Fungus-like—decomposers that can move; cell walls not made of chitin like Fungi Kingdom members

  5. Major Habitats Ponds, lakes, streams, oceans, soil, and within other living organisms as parasites.

  6. Major Niches • Animal-like—consumers, could be herbivores or carnivores, either predator or parasite. • Plant-like—producers • Fungus-like—consumers, decomposers
