God’s Mission of Love for All Generations
“The Greatest Commandment(s)
in the Law…
Rabbi Jesus understandably answers first
with The Shema from Deuteronomy 6.
What is more surprising is that Jesus
linksthis command to love God with the
far-less known and less-enforced law from Leviticus 19:18 to love others as ourselves.
“Knowing that legalistic slavery eroded our dignity and twisted our identity,
Jesus directs us back to the very heartbeat of Sinai’s law… love. Because Jesus sees us as orphaned and abused people in need of love, he pursues our hearts with a fierceness that renews, restores, and revives our capacity for it.”
- Chuck DeGroat, “Leaving Egypt”
8 Let no debt remain outstanding,
except the continuing debtto love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the Law. 9 The commandments… are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is
the fulfillment of the Law.
Free Methodist Church:
1.) Love God
2.) Love People
3.) Make Disciples
18 Then Jesus came to them and said,
“All authority in Heaven and on Earth
has been given to me.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
* We show love to others, desiring that they should be saved from the wrath of Hell and experience the joy of holy living.
* We show love to God by obeying Him,
as well by declaring His glory to the world.
