  1. ___ ___ ______ Time Line Project By Alex Dehner, Danny Kim, Pete Love 4/15/09 B period

  2. Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19,1473 in Poland and died on May 24 1543. In 1491 Copernicus enrolled at the Jagiellonian University. 1504- Copernicus became the first astronomer to formulate a comprehensive heliocentric cosmology, which displaced the earth from the center of he universe. In 1516-1521 Copernicus resided at Olsztyn Castle as economic administration. Nicolaus Copernicus

  3. Tycho was born on December 14, 1546 and died on October 24, 1601. At the Uraniburg university he created an early research institute. He built large astronomical instruments for observing space. In 1572 he observed the first recorded supernova. Tycho Brahe

  4. Johannes was born on December 27, 1571-November 15, 1630. Johannes Kepler was a German Mathematician astronomer and astrologer. He became a teacher of math and astronomy at age 23 on April 23, 1594. During 1600-1612 he worked for Tycho Brahe. Johannes Kepler

  5. Galileo Galilei • Galileo was born on February 15, 1564- January 8, 1642. • 1608-Galileo made a telescope 3 times stronger. • Aug. 25 1609- Galileo demonstrated his first telescope. • 1610-Galileo made the Starry Messenger the first scientific treatise to be published. • 1616-Galileo observed Saturn and its rings. • 1624-Galileo perfected the compound telescope. • 1632-Galileo presented a physical theory for tides.

  6. Edwin Hubble • Edwin Hubble was an American scientist Born Nov.20, 1989 - Sep.28, 1953. • He changed astronomers understanding of the nature of the universe by demonstrating the existence of other galaxies and our own. • He spent most of his life working on astronomical physics. • A 41 cent stamp was even released with his picture on it.

  7. A Russian space program that made its first launch on October 4 1957. It took place during International Geophysical year. It was the first man made object to orbit earth. Over forty “sputnik ‘s” have been launched. Sputnik

  8. The first human space flight program of the United States. It ran from 1959-1963. The main goal was to put a human in orbit around the earth. The Mercury-Atlas 6 flight was the first to achieve this goal. The project cost approx. 384 million dollars or 2.7 billion in 2007 dollars. Mercury

  9. The second human space flight program for NASA. It operated between the mercury and Apollo missions. The mission for Gemini was to develop techniques for advanced space travel. The worked on new orbital maneuvers like rendezvous and docking. Gemini

  10. America’s first human flight program under taken by NASA(National Aeronautics and Space Administration) . Main reason for project is to put a man on the moon. Program pushed by John F Kennedy. First rocket to land on moon was Apollo 11 July 20,1969 after a four day flight. First country and program to land on moon. Apollo

  11. Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 and died on March 31, 1727 at the age of 84. He was a was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and alchemist. During his middle life he studied mathematics, optics, and mechanics & gravitations. Newton is credited for his laws in physics and gravity. Isaac Newton

  12. A space shuttle that propels itself after landing on the surface of mars. During the 1970’s It makes observations at the microscopic level which trumps orbital instruments. The rover can conduct physical experiments and take and analyze samples. Two spacecrafts have landed successfully. Only one still is in communication with earth. Mars Rover

  13. The shuttle missions officially knew as the Space Transportation System. This is NASA’s current manned human space flight program. The main mission is to carry payloads to various orbits like the space station. NASA current manned launch vehicle is set to be retired in 2010. Shuttle missions

  14. The largest and most versatile space telescope, even though it was not the first. It was carried into space by the shuttle discovery. Founded in 1970’s and was set to launch in 1983. due to delays it launched in 1990. It takes pictures from space that we cant see from Earth do to the Earth’s atmosphere Hubble Telescope
