  1. Cancer Chemotherapy Module Brian G. Gentry, Drake University CPHS

  2. Course objectives Desired Effect Biochemistry Physiology Adverse Effect Pharmacology Combinatory Effect Pharmaceutical Sciences

  3. Course Objectives • Apply the general principles of biochemistry, physiology, and pharmaceutical sciences to make predictions about the therapeutic actions of cancer chemotherapeutics. • Apply the general principles of biochemistry, physiology, and pharmaceutical sciences to make predictions on the occurrence of adverse effects and negative drug-drug interactions. • Using knowledge obtained in class on the mechanism of action for each drug individually, examine clinically viable chemotherapy combinations and develop a mechanism of potentiation.

  4. In - Class • Day 6: • Presentation of Diagrams – Take 2 • Type I Adverse Effects • Day 2: • Quiz • Model Drug Action • Student Group Diagrams • Day 4: • Presentation of Diagrams • New Pathways • Student Group Diagrams Day 1: Review of Previously Learned Pathways Day 3: Student Group Diagrams Day 5: Student Group Diagrams – Take 2! Day 7: Develop Model of Drug Action Outside of Class

  5. Predict the outcome of inhibiting dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) on a biochemical and physiological level. (A)
