Styles of Writing. We as human beings, we develop two forms of speaking and writing. We have: Casual Register = We write how we speak, talk, or communicate with one another on a daily basis.

  2. We as human beings, we develop two forms of speaking and writing. We have: Casual Register = We write how we speak, talk, or communicate with one another on a daily basis. Formal Register = We develop this form of speaking and writing as we grow as learners. This form of writing is the grammatically correct way of expressing ourselves on paper in the written manner.

  5. Stylesof Writing We will be looking at six (6) styles of Writing. They are: Narrative Descriptive Inference Comparative Persuasive Reflective

  6. Styles of Writing : Narrative Narrative:This is like telling a story. A story that should be entertaining. A good story should also be meaningful and it should arouse the emotions of the reader. Like all styles of writing, a Narrative should have an introduction, body of the story, conclusion.

  7. Styles of Writing: Narrative If you are writing in this style: You are a narrator = someone who tells the story (storyteller) Anyone can write a narrative (a short story) Narrating = the act of telling the story

  8. Most common mistakes made by all classes: There = this means being somewhere or a place. “The cat is sleeping by the window over there”. Their = this means possessive, belonging to and is used in the plural form. “They all moved their cars to the new parking lot”.

  9. Most common mistakes made by all classes: Seen = this word means something that you saw. “He was careful not to be seen by the burglars and was able to escape from harm”. Since = this word means from a certain point on in time. “Cockroaches have been on the earth since the beginning of time”.

  10. Most common mistakes made by all classes: Whent Went = to go somewhere. Ur You’re = a contraction for you are Your = possessive. Something that belongs to you. Yours = something that someone says that belongs to you.

  12. Most common mistakes made by all classes: Verb tense Agreement He = singular (is). Is is used when referring to one person. She = singular It = singular They = plural (are). Are is used when referring to more than one person. They are, We are, The dogs are…. We = plural (are) Groups of something = plural (are) Do, Does, Did : I do not like to watch old black and white movies. Does she like to watch old black and white movies? Did she go to watch the old black and white movies? Subject + verb = agreement

  13. The words that have the letters I and E in them. Remember the spelling rule: “I before E except after C.” EXAMPLE: Believe Receive Friends Perceive

  14. Narrative Writing Activity Write your own narrative story and add pictures to your short story.
