  3. Contents • Overview of DLM Field Test #1 • Before the assessment begins: PNP and First Contact • Administering the assessments

  4. Learning Map

  5. DLM Testlets • Designed at 5 levels to allow a wide array of access to content for the Essential Element • Five linkage levels: • Initial precursor • Distal precursor • Proximal precursor • Target (most like the EE) • Successor

  6. Different Combinations of Testlets for Different Students

  7. Goals of Field Test #1

  8. Test hypothesized relationships between skills in the mapwithin and across Essential Elements.

  9. Evaluate a plan for using student information to determine what level of test to deliver.

  10. Gather feedback from educators about accessibility, system interface, testlet design, etc.

  11. Field Test #1 Design

  12. Before the Assessment First Contact Survey And Personal Needs and Preferences Profile

  13. Educator Portal educator.cete.us • Complete Personal Needs and Preferences and First Contact Survey information for each student assessed • User Guide has step-by-step and screen shots

  14. Completing PNP

  15. Recommendations for Personal Needs and Preferences Profile

  16. Make choices consistent with current IEP accommodations (when appropriate).

  17. Choose options familiar to students.

  18. Use the practice activities and released testlets that are available in the KITE system. Sample students are available to see features.

  19. Completing First Contact • Used to determine which test to administer • Topics include: • Device use • Expressive and receptive communication • Prior academic performance • Special instructions: • Students who had FC data from spring 2013 survey • FC items look different after January 31

  20. Spring 2013 First Contact Survey

  21. Check or Complete First Contact Survey one week after student roster is created.

  22. Educator Portal Update End of January

  23. Before the Assessment: Reminders • Check your roster for accuracy – contact your Data Steward if changes are needed • Student’s grade level • Make sure PNP and FC are activated • FC must be completed in order for tests to be assigned • Use PNP to optimize experience

  24. During the Assessment

  25. Basic Navigation

  26. Testlets administered to students on the computer

  27. Multiple Choice and Other Item Types

  28. Practice activities and released testletshelp students become familiar with access features and item types.

  29. Teachers may help students navigate across screens or enter responses that students have selected during the field test.

  30. Adaptations that are Allowed • Sign language interpretation • Substituting objects for images • Present answer options in alternate layout

  31. Adaptations that are NOT Allowed • Repeating the question until the student can answer it correctly • Using physical prompts or hand-over-hand guidance • Removing answer options or giving hints

  32. General Principles for Accommodations • The student should be expected to respond independently. • Adaptations that are selected should be familiar to the student because they have been used during routine instruction.

  33. Teacher-Administered Testlets

  34. Setting Up • Collect materials mentioned on Educator Directions page • ELA: • may need objects with texts • Texts are in the testlet – do not need to collect them • Math: • May use objects • System will say whether they can be substituted

  35. Teacher Administered ELA Testlets

  36. Arrange in a Triangle Student and teacher can see each other and the screen.

  37. Follow the onscreen directions. Ask the questions as written.

  38. Teacher Administered Math Testlets Teacher must face student and see the computer screen.

  39. Substitute objects if needed.

  40. Recording Responses • Select answer that matches student response regardless of response mode • Administer each item once – no scaffolding or repeated trials

  41. During Testing: Reminders • Look at first screen in each section to determine whether it is teacher administered or computer administered • Maximize student engagement
