  1. Bell ringer- pick up your quiz from yesterday. Get out paper and pencil. Copy these notes. Here we go, 6 step cross-over time. Not a dance :) It's how we write ionic formulas 1. Begin by identifying the metal and nonmetal. 2. Write symbols 3. Write charges (for transition metals, the charge of the metal is the number in the () after the metal name. 4. Cross-over the charges from top to bottom 5. Remove the charges 6. Simplify the numbers and remove 1's

  2. For the following compounds, give the formulas sodium phosphide aluminum sulfide beryllium chloride calcium oxide 1.

  3. potassium sulfide Calcium fluoride arsenide rubidium strontium selenide 1.

  4. chloride Barium Cesium carbide

  5. For the following compounds, give the formulas magnesium nitrate calcium phosphate ammonium sulfate silver cyanide 1.

  6. Bell ringer- get out homework and check against screen 22.) Na3P 23.) Mg(NO3)2 25.) Ca3(PO4)2 29.) BeCl2 35.) CaO 36.) Mg(C2H3O2)2 39.) BaO

  8. For the following compounds, give the formulas lead (II) sulfite copper (I) arsenide iron (III) oxide vanadium (V) phosphate 1.

  10. We will use the reverse of the 6 step cross-over to do this. 1. Separate the 2 elements or polyatomic ions. 2. Add 1's to elements with no number. 3. Cross-over bottom to top. 4. Add charges- 1st one is +, 2nd one is - 5. Make sure the charges match the expected charges in the PT or PAL. 6. Write the name. Metal stays the same, nonmetal drops its ending and adds -ide. For transition metals, change the charge to roman numerals, place in parentheses following the metal name. [Fe2+ would change to Iron (II) ]

  11. Name the following ionic compounds, please note that no Roman Numerals are needed. Zn(OH)2 KCl BeSO4 Al2S3 NaOH Mg3P2 MgBr2 We will use the reverse of the 6 step cross-over to do this.

  13. Roman Numerals are needed here, because these contain Transition Metals. FeCl3 PbO FeCl2 CrF2 We will use the reverse of the 6 step cross-over to do this. 1. Separate the 2 elements or polyatomic ions. 2. Add 1's to elements with no number. 3. Cross-over bottom to top. 4. Add charges- 1st one is +, 2nd one is - 5.
