  1. Argentina! By: Kelsey, Hannah, Ashley, Darrion

Holidays & food! • Navidad! - they celebrate it very similar to the western nations - since it doesn’t snow in Argentina (except in the mountains) they use cotton to imitate snow. - they have huge feasts which include meat pies, stuffed tomatoes, roast pork, or turkey. - they also celebrate with cake and champagne! • Feista de la vendimia! - this is the wine harvest festival - starts the 1st Saturday in march and continues on for one week! • Dia de la tradicion! - this is a day where they celebrate their culture! - they drink tea, and use chimichurri sauce on many different dishes! School life! • The average school expectancy is 15 years! • Most all of the kids wear uniforms to school! • School subjects! - Spanish - math - art - technology - music - theater - English • There are different kinds of schools there; there are ones based upon religion or just pure education. • School is very similar to what is here in the western civilizations!   4. Staples of the diet! • Chicken • Fruit • Vegetables • Corn • Cattle (beef) • Other live stock • Wheat • Tea • Squash • empanadas Kelsey

  5. Typical Dish • Empanadas- Meat or veggie turnover, baked and stuffed beef. • Italian food influence- Lots of pasta. • Ice cream is a favorite (Strawberry). • Dolce de leche- A milky caramel desert. Ashley

Family and Home Roles • Urban families are small (typically 2 kids) • Rural families are larger (About 4 Kids minimum) • Responsibilities for raising children are handling finances fall upon the mother. • Men work long hours a day, often resulting them not coming home before 9pm. • Families sacrificed a great deal to insure children get a proper education. • Until 1987, divorce was illegal in Argentina, but now its is legal and on the rise. Arts and Crafts • Influenced strongly by European culture. • Native American influences includes horn craving , silver work, leatherwork, ceramics and weaving. • Tango is national dance and music Argentina. • The tango is an very dramatic and upbeat dance full of long steps, quickly movements, and sudden pauses. • Originated in Argentina in the late 1800,s. Geography • Mountains, beaches, plains, and South American country • Stretches from the subtropical north to the sub Antarctic south • 2300 miles long, 868 miles across at largest point • Country bordered by Atlantic Ocean • Northern Argentina has forests and is hot and wet • The pampas, “level land”, flat, fertile, temperate • Andes- western portion • Patagonia- covers more than ¼ Argentina… consists of plateaus and canyons Hannah

  9. Serving Styles & Meal patterns • Light Breakfast • Late lunch, sometimes main meal (Workers typically send one man to butcher…) • Afternoon: Tea and a pastry • Dinner: main meal, usually late evening  • Beef is considered best in world: “tender enough to be cut with a fork” Hannah

Typical Menu for Meals of the Day • Breakfast: Typically espresso and something light to eat • Lunch and Dinner: Barbeque! • Typically beef entrée (The average Argentinean eats 190 lbs of beef a year) • Typical dinner: fries, grilled beef, salad, red wine • Salads- lemon dressing • Dessert- fruit, cheese, dulce de leche, flan, rice pudding Hannah

  11. Travel&Sites • When travel to Argentina you’ll notice that the country is built on more of a vintage old school look. But elegant and beautiful Place to go: San Telmo- Is tango shows in Plaza Dorrego The Iguazú falls-Are said to be the most beautiful of all Argentina. For rest and complete confront the Sheraton Iguazú Resort & Spa All of Argentina is consider to be a wonder of the world. Know for it’s lavishing and intricate city's Darrion

  12. Pop Culture In Argentina they live for music… and of course fine arts. There are just two main music style in Argentina the Tango and Folklore. If you notice most celebrities in this country are model of some sort. Dora Noemí Kerchen- is a famous actor, singer, dance, TV hostess, and model. Known for her husband deported from the US a “illegal alien”. Noelia Alejandra Bernal- An Argentine model, Noelia Alejandra Bernal represented her country at the 2007 Miss World pageant. Darrion
