Title I, Part A • This program provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of poor children to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. • Districts target the Title I funds they receive to public schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families.

  3. Title I Schools – 2007-08 • 1,364 schools • 1,326 school-wide • 38 targeted assistance • 112 charter • 1,252 not charter

  4. Student Participation in Title I Programs – 2006-07 • Schoolwide Programs • 199,113 students • Targeted Assistance Programs • 2,494 students • Part A, Local Neglected • 6,221 students • Private school students • 1,998 students

  5. What Data Is Reported? • Title I students • Free- and reduced-price lunch data • Title I program models • Support Services • Highly-qualified teachers and paraprofessionals

  6. How is the Data Used? • Determining Title I school eligibility (based on percent of students on free- or reduced-price lunch) • School districts use the same data to determine allocations to Title I schools • Reporting data to the US Department of Education on the Consolidated State Performance Report (CSPR)

  7. Lunch Status • Convert codes 6 and 9 to code 2 for reporting. • Codes 2, 3 and 4 are Free/Reduced Price Lunch students. • Survey 5 – report 2, 3 or 4 if the student was eligible at any time during the year.

  8. Title I School List • Survey 3 data is used to populate the Public School Eligibility Survey (PSES). • Free or Reduced Price Lunch percentages and total membership by school. • Ages 5-17 • School exists on Master School Identification file.

  9. Title I Schools List • Districts can modify PSES data. • Districts submit PSES with schools designated as school-wide or targeted assistance and an allocation amount. • DOE produces a preliminary Title I list. • No schools can be deleted from the Title I Schools list after November 1 – only added. • April 2009: Target date for final 2008-09 list – no additions after that.

Master School Identification (MSID) File • School Number • School Grade Span (Grades Served) • School Type (elementary, middle/jr. high, senior high, combination) • Neglected & delinquent school status. • Title I status – school-wide or targeted assistance. • School in Need of Improvement (SINI) status.

Federal/State Compensatory Project Evaluation - Instructions • Submit a separate record during reporting period 5 for each student who participated in a Title 1 Targeted Assistance, Title 1 Local Neglected, Title 1 Homeless program during the school year and, if applicable, the summer session. • NOTE: It is not necessary to submit records for students in Title 1 School-wide programs.

  24. Data Verification • Bureau of Student Assistance - current procedures: • Preliminary data are reviewed after the due date of Surveys 3 and 5. • Coordinators, in conjunction with MIS Directors, are asked to verify all Title I-related data. • Districts are provided until the last day of state processing to update the data. • Data are pulled by the Bureau the day after state processing.
