  3. Recent Happenings • Power outage for substation work – contractors • Work on TOF system and KL – Maurizio, Ludovico and group • New Rack installation continues – Henry, Roger, Geoff • Work on LH2 system in Hall – Matt Hills and co. • Arrival of infrastructure for Step IV • Target in R78 – Target group • EMR group coming soon • EMR data-taking in JULY User Run – Beam starts June 27 • 10 May – 9 June 2011: ISIS run • 10 June – 12 June 2011: machine physics – pushed back to June 13/14 • 13 June – 26 June 2011: shutdown – starts now June 15 • 27 June – 3 July: run up and machine physics • 4 July 2011: machine permits • 5 July – 4 August 2011: ISIS run • 5 August – 7 August 2011: machine physics • 8 August – 4 September 2011: shutdown? (subject to change) MOM Report-Coney

  4. POWER OFF: Hall and Rack Room affected Lights, fire, some wall power still on – ie. 5. Work on Substation in Hall • Power out as of Friday May 13 • Work began promptly – old equipment already gone • Expected complete by Friday May 27 (next week) – possbily sooner MOM Report-Coney

  6. Return from Power Outage • Developing plan for bringing up the system again • Controlled, gradual turn-on of systems • Test of equipment – learn of any potential failures early! • Turn ON and test w/o beam as much as possible • Decay Solenoid cooldown will start as soon as relevant equipment is powered – likely June 1 • Beam test planned for Machine Physics period after current User Run – now June 13/14 • Need experts either at RAL or on call: • DAQ - Yordan, Jean-Sebastien • Controls & Monitoring – Pierrick • Control Room/Rack Room/New Rack – Craig, Henry • DS - Mike Courthold, Matt Hills • Need water restored to Hall – pipes were cut for substation work • No water to magnets, magnet PS, LH2 system MOM Report-Coney

  7. TOF, KL & CKOV Update • Italian groups were at RAL last week working hard to get detectors ready again • The repaired SY527 HV crate was delivered and reinstalled in the Hall • HV’s for TOF0, TOF2 must be taken from new tables and have been modified inside minicom • The installation work of last week 9/5-13/5 was successfully accomplished. • TOF0 - A PMT on TOF0 was changed with a DSA access by the MIB team • KL & TOF2 • The RM3 downstream platform was modified to allow easy installation of   the EMR calorimeter by the RM3 team (Ludovico, Alfredo, Maximo and   Valerio) with the help of the MIB team and the MIce Hall Willie's team • Both detectors were recabled and all PMTs tested. • One dead TOF2 PMT was discovered – on the edge - swapped out for a spare • TOF0, TOF2, and KL are in good shape and ready for data-taking • TOF1 delivery scheduled for mid-June • CKOVa out of beamline – Lucien & David to RAL mid-June MOM Report-Coney

  8. Rack Room & PPS • New rack almost full • (grid data mover PC, micestore, miceacq* servers and DAQ KVM system) • Old micestore turned on last Thursday to do requested backup • New micestore will be brought online after power outage • Most systems OFF due to substation work • PPS • Disconnected from ISIS system during Power Outage • DSA now officially part of ISIS – but currently chained up • Installation & testing of Hall PPS to happen this month • Requires complex process to test all options within PPS for securing and/or dropping each area • Plan to have Hall PPS during EMR Run MOM Report-Coney

  9. Target in R78 • Ran T2.7 • Able to predict behavior of target • Now running T2.8 • At MICE/ISIS target meeting last week agreed: • Present DLC/Vespel design IS suitable for use on ISIS • Performance of T2 now sufficiently good for it to be considered a “live spare” for T1, the target presently on ISIS!! MOM Report-Coney

  10. Next: EMR Running • Another focused data-taking period to test the first installation of the EMR • Production Running - User Run in June/July: • Machine physics June 27 - July 3 • User Run – July 5 – August 4 • Run 5 days/week – M-F • 10-12 hours/day (8am-8pm) • Personnel needed: MOM, BeamLine Expert, Shift Leader, Shifter • Shift leader has more experience and trains up new person • Novices need 1 week training shifts before official shifter • Experts/those doing the study are also there to guide & monitor progress • Need to start signing up for Shifts & BLOC duties MOM Report-Coney

  11. EMR Running • Need to prepare for arrival • Schedule of arrival • Schedule of installation • What equipment needed here? • What personnel? • Crane work? Cabling? Etc. • Schedule of data-taking • What beam, how much, how determine tests done? MOM Report-Coney

  12. m Conclusions • Everything is OFF at the moment…. • However, it is all ready to come back on – this will take some time, but will hopefully be smoother process than last time! • EMR data-taking will be here soon & • We must be ready – come take data again! MOM Report-Coney
