  1. First PrinciplesLessons in Discipleship “As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby: if so be that ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious” 1 Peter 2:2-3

  2. Introduction • What is truth? (John 18:37-38 and John 17:17) • Let’s agree on three fundamentals: • There must be something, somewhere that is true. Without truth, we can’t determine what is true or false, good or bad, right or wrong. • God is the author of truth. He cannot lie. • God has revealed truth to man through the Bible (John 17:17). It isn’t revealed through religions, mysteries, science, philosophy, or astrology, but through the plain, simple words in the Bible.

  3. Biblical SalvationLesson 1 Memory verse: Matthew 4:4 Lesson verse: 1 John 5:12 • The Requirement of Salvation • What is the spiritual condition of every human at birth? (Romans 3:10, 23; 5:12) • What is “sin”? (1 John 3:4) • What is the penalty that God places on sin? (Romans 6:23) • Is it possible for a sinner to save himself from the penalty of sin through good works? (Eph 2:8-9; Titus 3:5) • What did God provide for us through His Son? (John 3:16)

  4. Biblical Salvation • Let’s explore the two births (John 3:3) • The first birth is natural (1 Cor. 2:14) It occurs when you are physically born (John 3:1-6) • The second birth is spiritual (1 Cor. 2:15) • If people do not experience the second birth, what is their destiny? Who can be saved or born again? (Rom. 10:9-13) What must a person do in order to be saved? (Rom. 10:9-13, Acts 16:31)

  5. How to Be Saved • Realize you are a sinner and without the necessary righteousness to earn your entrance into heaven (Romans 3:23) • Recognize that you cannot save yourself, and that you need God’s specific intervention (Titus 3:5)

  6. How to be saved (cont.) • Repent of your old life, and all the sin that filled it (become disgusted with your sin and flee from it to God, and give all that you are to the One who loves you and gave himself for you on the cross (2 Cor. 7:10). • Receive the free gift of eternal life by faith (Eph. 2:8-9; Romans 10:13), specifically asking God in prayer to save you in Jesus name.

  7. The Completion of Salvation • Is our salvation dependent upon our ability to live upright and holy lives? (Gal. 2:16) • Who intercedes with God on behalf of a Christian who yields to temptation and sin in a time of weakness? (1 John 2:1-2) • Can Satan ever cause us to lose our salvation once we have been born again? (Rom. 8:37-39, Philippians 1:6, John 10:27-29, Jude 24)

  8. Completion of Salvation • We have been ADOPTED (Rom. 8:15) taken from being a condemned sinner and made a child of God, and heirs of everything God has • We have been FORGIVEN(Col. 1:14, Acts 26:18). All of our sins have been completely paid for by Jesus Christ. • We have beenJUSTIFIED(Acts 13:38-39). We are as righteous as Jesus Christ in the sight of God.

  9. Dealing with Sin as a Christian • What should a believer do when he sins against God? (1 John 1:9) • What will God do if we confess our sins (1 John 1:9)
