  2. What is the SAT? • Are you going to college? • 2 million students take the SAT • Measure of critical thinking skills • Assesses how well you apply what you have learned to analyze and solve problems, like you will do in college.

  3. What does it look like? • Eight types of questions. • Critical Reading: 67 questions/70 mins. • Writing: 49+essay/60 mins. • Mathematics: 54 questions/70 mins.

  4. Scoring • Multiple Choice Questions: receive one point for each correct answer. For every missed question, minus ¼ point. Unanswered questions aren’t calculated. • Math questions: Nothing is subtracted for wrong answers. • Essay: You will receive a score of 2 to 12. A blank or illegible essay will receive zero. • Total score will be between 200 to 800 for each section.

  5. How to Rock the SAT • There’s no substitute for Studying. • Like studying for an exam • Learn to read effectively • Improve vocabulary • Increase problem-solving abilities • Strengthen writing skills Practice!!!! And practice!!!

  6. In this class, we will… • Learn the directions for all eight types of questions. • Learn approaches for each type. • Practice! • Read and think carefully. • Learn how to guess. • Be positive! • Stay focused…invest in yourself.
