5. Barna Research • Most of our children are biblically illiterate. Only one-third (36%) believe the Bible is accurate in all the principles it teaches. • Few of our children are motivated to share their faith in Christ with others. Only 19% believe it is their responsibility to share. • Not even half of our young people (46%) state that their religious faith is very important in their lives.

6. Barna Research • Few take Satan seriously. Only 28% completely dismissed the idea that Satan is symbolic. • Salvation baffles most of our young ones. Only two out of every ten reject the idea that good people can earn their way into heaven. And only three out of every ten dismiss the belief that everyone experiences the same postdeath outcome, regardless of their beliefs.

7. Barna Research • Most of our kids are willing to entertain the idea that Jesus Christ sinned while He lived on earth. Only 44% outright dismiss the idea. • Only 58% believe that God is all-knowing, all-powerful Creator of the universe who stills rules His creation. About 60% believe God originally created the universe. • Only one-third of America’s adolescents ardently contend that Jesus Christ returned to physical life after His death.

What is a Spiritual Champion? • Individuals who have embraced Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, accept the Bible as truth, and as the guide for life, and seek to live in obedience to its principles and in search of ways to continually deepen their relationship with God. Spiritual Champions live in ways that are noticeably different from the norm—even when compared to the average church goer.

9. Revolutionary Parents are more likely to… • Schedule greater amounts of time together each day. • Single income families are statistically more likely to be Revolutionary Parents • Identify raising godly children as their number one goal.

Parenting Workshop • Start Early • Children begin absorbing values and beliefs as soon as they understand language • Plan It, Measure It, Revise It • Set tangible goals and hold yourself responsible • Forget the One Size Fits All Approach • Build a framework for parenting based around your child’s unique personality • Don’t Rush • Every child matures at a different rate • Godly Character • Character rather than just skills and knowledge

Charateristics of the Revolutionary Parent • Involved • Typical parents limit the areas of involvement • *RP* are involved in all areas of their child’s life • Find a balance between smother and freedom • Make friends elsewhere- you don’t need to be their BFF (best friend forever) • Hands Off vs. Hands On • *RP* don’t wait for problems to arise and then address the area of concern; they are hands on at every level

Characteristics of the Revolutionary Parent • Stability in the Home • Kids need an environment that encourages growth • They need consistency of people, roles, and choices • Parents must follow through on promises • Recognize Your Role • Understand the calling God has placed on you • See “Legacy Milestones: UGBC Parenting Material” to gain understanding of your role • You signed up for this job

Characteristics of the Revolutionary Parent • Lay Down the Law • Have a set standard of rules that never change • Verbal abuse is one of the leading causes of emotional and long-term damage • Spend Time With Your Kids • “Quality Time” is a lie • You will never have a deep relationship unless you invest substantial time • That will include more time than you invest in hobbies and friends

Characteristics of the Revolutionary Parent • Theologically Conservative • You will not find many *RP* who are theologically liberal of spiritually complacent • You must articulate certain key doctrines to your kids • These parents have a faith that impacts every area of life • They See Church as a Partner • Church is an invaluable partner • UGBC is not responsible for who your child becomes • Don’t use the “Dump & Run” method

You are more likely to raise a Spiritual Champion if you… • Genuinely Love God • Pray Daily • Worship Regularly • Read the Bible Habitually for Personal Growth & Development • Participate in the Life of a Spiritual Community • Apply Their Resources, Spiritual Gifts, and Natural Abilities Frequently to Influencing Lives
