At your tables, what are some indicators of poor marriage health?New Couples • Escalation ---lack of control, touchy, defensive, quick temper, spiral out of control---making things bigger than they really are. Prov 20:3; 29:11 • Invalidation ---pattern of put-downs, from indifference to contempt, lack of total acceptance, critical, judgmental • Negative Interpretations ---seeing the motives of the other more negatively than reality and jumping to defensiveness then conflict • Withdrawal and avoidance ---sweeping, running, hiding, burying

Some ideas to consider when deciding what you want the character of your marriage to be • Common purpose and aim • Conflict without dishonor and/or avoidance • A few, important joint agreements • Know each other through and through • Total acceptance, ‘all in’ attitude • Stress oneness, with respect and privacy, together and with others • Recreate; passion; friendship; dignity; uplifting atmosphere • Air of forgiveness and resolution • Dedication to renewal and restoration • Grace and mercy attitude, reflecting Christ’s grace and mercy • Best interest of the other at heart • Intimacy -intellectual, emotional, recreational, spiritual, physical---doing the best to connect, everyday.

What kind of love does it take to keep a marriage going everyday? What kind of love does it take to make a marriage last a lifetime?

  10. This Week What is the depth of love you have for your spouse? Have you made up your mind to love them, or are you awaiting their behavior to earn it?
