Forgive our misuse of power against others and against your creation. Help us to praise you in living in harmony and peace. Do not be ashamed of us we pray, but strengthen us in our time of testing. 28. Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith – Christmas By: Nathan Nettleton, 1999 We believe in God: the creator and giver of life, who brought all creation to birth, who mothers us and fathers us, protecting, nurturing, and cherishing us. We believe in Jesus Christ: God born among us as a fragile baby, embodying both love and the need for love, and calling us to rest in God as trustingly as a tiny child.

  29. Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith – Christmas By: Nathan Nettleton, 1999 We believe in the Holy Spirit: breathed into us at our birth, always drawing us on to be born again, encouraging, exhorting, comforting, nourishing our growth and inspiring our living. We believe in the reconciliation of the world to God, through Christ. Hunted at birth and humiliated at death,Christ entered our fearful darkness so that we might enter his glorious light and share the life of his resurrection.

  30. Responding to the WORD Affirmation of Faith – Christmas By: Nathan Nettleton, 1999 And we believe that each new child is a glimpse of the face of God, a sign of the life to come, and a call to live in peace and celebrate living together. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God's people on earth. Amen.

  40. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion We gather here on the beginning of the year as one body, joined around this table of God’s GRACE and LOVE. Jesus said, whenever two or three are gathered in God’s name, He is here among us. United in Christ's spirit, God revealed Godself to us, God’s Word became flesh to us. Christ is the tangible presence of our living Word.

  41. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion This is the table of the Heavenly Feast, the joyful celebration of the people of God. Christ invites everyone to eat the bread of life, to drink the cup of the new covenant.

  42. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

  43. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion With saints and the choir of angels, we join our voices in singing: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

  44. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion We give you thanks Holy God, for Jesus, who came to be your living Word, to baptize us with Spirit and fire, to feed the hungry, to humble the mighty, and to announce the good news of your coming realm.

  45. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion While gathered with the disciples, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way after supper, he took a cup, saying, This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

  46. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion With thanksgiving and praise, we offer ourselves to you, Sharing this holy meal, remembering Christ’s dying and rising, and praying: Come Lord Jesus! Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

  47. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us – this bread, this cup, and your people— Christ’s body and blood, given in love for the world. Make us one in the Spirit, one in the church, and one with our Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. Those who come to me shall never hunger; those who believe in me shall never thirst."

  48. Bearing and Following the WORD into the WorldHoly Communion

  49. Bearing and Following the WORD into the World Prayer after the Communion: (in unison) God of abundance and mercy: We joyfully give you thanks for your love and healing presence in our celebration of bread and wine.
