  3. Image Manipulation • Image Manipulation means applying image editing techniques to photographs, thus creating an illusion or deception of some kind. • Can you think of examples where image manipulation is used?

  4. File Types • Eps : (Encapsulated Poscript) An image format – compatible with postscript images (stores image as well as font information) • Jpeg / jpg: (Joint Photographic Experts Group) A compressed file type (best for compressing photographic content). Cross Platform

  5. Key Terms • Pixel: The smallest point of an image. Monitors/display screens are divided into thousands of pixels that are arranged in rows and columns. They are arranged so close together. • Image Resolution. Refers to the number of pixels in the image. Describes the detail an image holds. The higher the resolution number the higher quality the image will be.

  6. File Types • Gif: (Graphics Interchange Format) Limited colour storage – 256 colours. Uses LZW compression Often used on the world wide web • Tiff: (tagged image file format) Popular in publishing industry. Best choice for high resolution printing of images but not necessarily compatible with all applications.

  7. File Types • Bitmap: A type of graphic, not necessarily a photo. Has a fixed resolution (resizing is difficult). Often used for logos.
