  2. INTRODUCTION Ministry of Rural Development and Government of India is implementing wide ranging programs for improving the quality of life in rural areas. This will require a large village based cadre of volunteers who may be provided suitable training and incentives to actively support the administrative machinery and the Panchayat Raj Institutions in implementing of Government programmes.

  3. To generate awareness about government programmes and the procedures to avail of their benefits among the people. To encourage legal literacy to enable people to have proper understanding of their rights and obligations under various government programmes particularly those relating to Rural Development, Agriculture, Water shed Development, Health and Family Welfare, Education, Women& Child Development, Infrastructure ( including Roads, Electrification, Irrigation, Drinking Water, Sanitation Broad Band connectivity, Telephones, Banking and Post Offices) and Environmental Protection. SELECTED GRAM PANCHAYATS IN MANDALS • As per the instructions of the Commioner, AMR-APRAD Hyderabad the following Gram Panchayat have been selected to implement the above programme in Chittoor District. (a) Kotala Gram Panchayat Chandragiri Mandal (b) Rompicherla Gram Panchayat Rompicherla Mandal (c) Diguvamagham Gram Panchayat Thavanampalle Mandal. • But Kotala Gram Panchayat in Chandragiri Mandal has been taken in the 1st phase as Pilot Project. • Kotala Gram Panchayat in Chandragiri Mandal was identified under “BHARATH NIRMAN VOLUNTEERS PROGRAMME” • Kotala Gram Panchayat have selected 29 volunteers and they were given 3 days training at AMR-APARD, Hyderabad.

  11. Activities taken up by BNVs • BNVs have contributed Rs.29,000/- (Rs.1000/- each) and they taken up the following works. • White washed all government buildings in the village. Such as Gram Panchayat, Anganwadi, Library, M.P.Ele.School and OHSR. • Erected Wall News Board to write daily important news collecting from News paper. • Removed garbage in Kotala, H.W & A.A.W by engaging JCB and tractors. • Removed bushes on both sides of road from ZP High School to Kotala Village. • Constructed platform at hand pump near Anganwadi School.

AWARENESS CAMP • Conducted door to door campaign on Health, Personal Hygiene. • Cleaning & Chlorination of OHSRs. • Writing of names of BNVs on the GP Building. • Conducted Medical camp on Hb levels and found below average levels to many of students and villagers. Measures have been taken to improve Hb levels by conducting awareness programme. • Conducted awareness camp on consuming of Alcohol, Gutka, Pan Masala, Hans, etc., • Conducted awareness camp to avoid using of Plastic items in the village.

  18. Knowing the above activities performing by the BNVs of Kotala GP the Commissioner, AMR-APARD surprised and visited the village in person along with the Centre Heads of the Academy. Interacted with volunteers and appreciated for the activities they are doing Visit of Sri K.Chandramouli, I.A.S, Commissioner, APARD,Hyderabad

Interaction with BNVs in Kotala GP During Gram Sabha the Commissioner has stated that the Lab 2 Land Programme has been introduced to create awareness among people with regard to the various Welfare and Development programmes implemented by the Central and State Governments through Bharat Nirman Volunteers. The Commissioner has encouraged the volunteers to render more social service activities for the development of village in the fields of Millennium Development goals such as Sanitation, Health, Hygiene, Drinking water, Literacy, Nutrition, Education, Housing, Water Sheds , Organic Agriculture, Horticulture etc.,. The Commissioner made night halt in the village along with his team.

THE BNVS INSPIRED BY THE ENCOURAGEMENT GIVEN BY THE COMMISSIONER IN THE GRAMA SABHA PERFORMED THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES WITH THE COOPERATION OF PUBLIC. • Selling of Alcohol in the village is totally prohibited from 01.07.2011 which is a great achievement • With the awareness created by BNVs the shop vendors have promised to avoid selling of Gutka, Pan Masala, Pan Parag, Hans etc., immediately.

Developmental Activities done • 1000 Trees were planted with fencing and each BNV adopted 35 plants for their safeguard and survival. • Kitchen Garden Kits were distributed to 60 families with the coordination of KVK-RASS, Tirupathi to improve nutrition levels in the presence of Chief Executive Officer, ZPP, Chittoor. • Launched Meekosam - MemuProgramme to give food security to the Poorest of the Poor and distributed 10 Kg of Rice to the poorest of poor women on the eve of Independence Day. This activity will be performed in every month.

Developmental Activities done • On the eve of Independence Day celebrations conducted games, sports, essay writing & elocutions competition to ZP & MP Elementary school students and distributed dictionaries, Exam Writing Pads & Sketch Pens to the winners. • One of the BNV announced to give cash award of Rs.516/- to the students who secured more than 500 marks in the ensuing S.S.C Examinations as an encouragement. • Conducted awareness camp on using of Solar Cookers, Lamps, Lights, Bio-Gas and saving of Energy through the DM, NEDCAP.

  23. Developmental Activities done • They were given three days residential training at Extension Training Centre, Srikalahasti on Sanitation, Health & Hygiene and personality Management. In turn Triggering on open defecation was conducted by DRP in the village. • 253 house holds have come forward for construction & using of ISLs and started grounding on 06.09.2011 in the presence of Chief Executive Officer, ZP,Chittoor. • Awareness camp on Agriculture, Horticulture and Sanitation was conducted by the N.S.S students of S.V.Agricultural University, Tirupathi.

Developmental Activities done • The villagers have come forward to avoid usage of Plastic items. • Each BNV have adopted 10 house holds for execution and completion of ISLs. • Every Sunday they are doing Sramadanam • They succeed bus facility from Tirupathi • The BNVs are assembling on every Friday at BNVs office to discuss the activities to do further.

EXPECTATIONS • TANA has come forward to provide financial assistance of Rs.5.50 Lakhs for establishment of R.O.Water Plant shortly. • Andhra Bank, Chandragiri has come forward to give training on self employment programmes such as Tailoring, Candle making, Agar bathi making and Paper bags manufacturing. Proposal also submitted to the bank through MPDO, Chandragiri. • MPDO, Chandragiri has come forward to provide financial assistance of Rs.1 Lakh for repairs of old ZPHS building. • The villagers of Pandurangavari Palli have come forward to donate land in their fields to form road to the burial ground for the use of both SCs and villagers. • Erection of Electric Poles from Rail way gate to SC Colony of • Pandurangavaripalli village by the SE, TRANSCO.

EXPECTATIONS • Repairs to supply channel and revetment to Venkatrayunu Cheruvu by the SE, Irrigation. • Construction of OHSR in SC colony of Pandurangavaripalli and provide separate drinking water facility to ST Colony of Kotala by SE, RWS. • The BNVs have come forward to cultivate vegetables through Organic method, in turn the Secretary, Rythu Bazar, Tirupathi has given oral consent to provide a stall in the Rythu Bazar, Tirupathi. • ANM Centre
