  1. Assessment Objectives By: Nadya Utami Paramaiswari 10K

  2. There are three main objectives in English class that we students are trying to accomplish. By accomplishing these, hopefully we will be able to increase our skill in mastering English, giving better results academically and will also be better at using English.

  3. 1. Ability to read any written material forms with understanding and to give comment based on its effectiveness Forms: • Genre • Writer’s Purpose • Tone

  4. a) Genre Genre is the category or theme of the literature. Examples of genre: • Fiction (made up stories read for entertainment). It can be specified again into Realistic, Mystery, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Fairytale, Folklore, etc. • Non-fiction (contains fact). It can be specified again into Biography, Auto-biography, History, Travel, Advertisement, etc.

  5. b) Writer’s Purpose Purpose is the reason a text is written There are four main purposes: • To inform • To persuade • To entertain • To advertise

  6. c) Tone Tone is the use of grammar and vocabulary chosen by the writer to create deeper characterization into the story. Examples of tone: • Sarcastic • Humorous • Confidential • Critical • Persuasive • Etc.

  7. 2. The knowledge and understanding of english language featuresto be able to identify the genre, writer’s purpose and tone of a text English language features: • Vocabulary • Figures of speech • Structure

  8. a) Vocabulary Vocabulary is the choice of words used by the writer to create a better characterization in the text.

  9. b) Figures of Speech • Figures of speech is the language features of a text • Examples of figures of speech: • Ellision • Ellipsis • Phatic speech • Fillers • Paralinguistic features • Etc.

  10. 3. The ability to write clear, accurate, and effectively for a certain purpose and/or audience Directed writing is needed to be able to accomplish this. Directed writing is producing pieces of writing similar to the original passage

  11. Hopefully I will be able to accomplish all these objectives ^^~
