Tasks • S3.1: Inception and organization of two NoE conferences • S3.2: Organization of workshops, dedicated sessions, conferences in international conferences • S3.3: Organization of a roadmap workshop • S3.4: EU-NSF supported NeXtworking conference • S3.5: Cross-disciplinary multiple-journal special issue • S3.6: Internet Science White papers • S3.7: Developing cooperation opportunities • S3.8: Evaluating NoE’s impact and providing internal feedback WP13 (SEA3)

Overview of Work Performed • A progress in line with the work planned in the DoW • despite the difficulties to quickly progress at the start of a large NoE • A suited momentum due in particular to a clear repartition of Tasks agreed on at the plenary meeting of April 2012 • usefully complementing the DoW WP13 (SEA3)

Task S3.1 achievements (TL: Sigma) Inception and organization of two NoE conferences • A difficult challenge • A dual event, the first in a series, so many events… • A collective effort to make it happen • Event concept, CfP, promotion, practical organization, … • Rewarding achievements • A successful CfP, 10 keynote speakers, a significant increase of project ePresence (see WP11), a good level of attendance WP13 (SEA3)

Task S3.2 achievements and plans (TL: Sigma) Organization of workshops, dedicated sessions, conferences in international conferences • JRA workshops • JRA1: a co-located event of the 2013 EINS Summer school, in Annecy, France • JRA2 : "Thinking architecturally" (Cambridge University, Nov. 28-29, 2012) • JRA3: a workshop to be organized in 2013 (details under discussion) • JRA4: a workshop jointly held with JRA5 (at M22 ideally in conjunction with the Internet Governance Forum/GIGANET) and another one jointly held with JRA6? • JRA5 : “Internet Trust, Reputation, Identity and Privacy (TRIP 2012)” (EPFL, Dec. 4, 2012) • JRA6: a workshop in autumn 2013 (details under discussion) • JRA7: a workshop with invited speakers outside the NoE (details under discussion) • JRA8: a workshop in 2014 (co-located with SustainIT2013?) • Other JRA initiatives • JRA4, JRA5 and JRA6 members have been involved in a half-day Internet Science workshop (University of Oslo - August 2012) and in a session at APC 2012 (Amsterdam, October 2012) • JRA8 members have been involved in SustainIT2012 (Pisa, October 2012) and in ECOC 2012 (Amsterdam, September 2012) • Participation in external conferences • Among participations, the ones from PhD students from the NoE (travel grants provided by the project) at SIGCOMM 2012, ACM CONEXT 2012. WP13 (SEA3)

Task S3.3 achievements and plans (TL: UoA-ULANC) Organization of a roadmap workshop • A roadmap workshop included into the 1st EINS plenary meeting (April 2012) • Preparation of the report postponed (after discussion with the PO) until more interactions can develop among NoE partners • Plans for the coming period • JRA leaders asked to provide inputs after the 1st EINS Conference • JRA workshops asked to include a roadmap panel in their program and submit a report on this • A first version of the roadmap report made available before the 2nd project review. • The roadmap report to be updated at Year 3 based on additional inputs as in Year 2, and on the EU-NSF NeXtworking event planned for 2014. WP13 (SEA3)

Task S3.4 achievements and plans (TL: UoA) EU-NSF supported NeXtworking conference • Visit to Arizona State University in Nov. 2012 to discuss US involvement in the targeted EUEINS/USANSF supported conference • Meeting with Prof. Shen (in charge of the annual INFOCOM Network Science Workshop) • Presentation of the EINS initiative at the IEEE Computer Communications Workshop • Planned joint proposal (with Arizona State University) to USANSF requesting the support to the 3rd edition of NeXtworking (to be held in 2014) WP13 (SEA3)

  9. Task S3.5 achievements and plans (TL: ULANC) Cross-disciplinary multiple-journal special issue • An initial CfP drafted for the purpose of the 1st EINS Conference • Accepted papers might be considered through a 2nd round review for publication in a special issue of the IEEE Transaction on Emerging Topics in Computing • A call for papers for the release of a cross-disciplinary multiple-journal special issue is currently under consideration WP13 (SEA3)

  10. Task S3.6 achievements and plans (TL: ULANC) Internet Science White papers • A first White paper is under consideration for the early months of 2013 • to be developed when more project outputs are available from the various JRAs WP13 (SEA3)

Task S3.7 achievements (TL: Sigma) Developing cooperation opportunities • An intense activity has developed during the first year, involving a great number of NoE partners, to establish links with external stakeholders • Participation in external events, presentations to target stakeholders, specific meetings • Detailed report on this activity can be found in D13.3.1 WP13 (SEA3)

  12. Task S3.8 achievements (TL: CERTH) Evaluating NoE’s impact and providing internal feedback • Quite an important impact reached during the 1st year thanks to various project tools and activities • EINS portal: blogs, wiki, affiliate programme, mobility programme • Organization of JRA workshops, support to external conferences, 1st EINS Summer school • Contribution to external conferences, direct contacts with external stakeholders • Organization of the 1st EINS conference • An increasing cooperation and integration of activities enabling the planned creation of the concept of an ‘Internet Scientist’ WP13 (SEA3)

  14. Conclusions and future plans • A lot of activities already developed during the 1st year and quite an important impact reached to date • Efforts from all partners remain necessary to maintain and increase project dissemination and impact • No major areas of concern WP13 (SEA3)
