  1. WELCOME TO WORKSHOP ON CCE (CONTINUOUS AND COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION )

  2. WHY CCE? • External Examinations are largely inappropriate for the knowledge society of the 21st century. • There is no scope for higher order skills, lateral thinking, creativity and Judgement. • External exams induce an inordinate level of anxiety and stress. • There is a strong need for a functional and reliable system of school based evaluation.

  3. SALIENT FEATURES OF CCE It aims at Holistic assessment of a learner which includes: Co-scholastic areas. Life skills. Attitudes and values. Sports and games.

  4. IMPLICATIONS OF CCE • There will be no class X Board Exam with effect from 2011 for students studying in CBSE Senior Secondary School who do not wish to move out of the CBSE system after class X. • Those who wish to move out of the CBSE system after class X will be required to take the Boards external examination. • Those who wish to assess themselves vis-à-vis their peers or for self-assessment will be allowed a proficiency test (pen and paper/online)

  5. ADVANTAGES OF CCE • It will reduce stress and anxiety which often builds up during and after the examination. • It will reduce the drop-out rate. • In the past there was a practice to finish the syllabus early and follow it up with pre-board and study leave. • Now, there will be greater focus on learning rather than teaching for the examination. • Emphasis on conceptual clarification, emphasis on experiential learning.

  6. ADVANTAGES OF CCE • Availability of more time for transaction of curriculum. • Development of personality by focusing on the co-scholastic aspects. • Students are prepared for life. • Students will have more time to develop their interests, hobbies and personalities. • It will motivate learning in a friendly environment rather than in a fearful situation. • It will equip students with life-skills, creative thinking, lateral thinking skills and social skills.
