Monocot vs. Dicot. 2 Classes of Angiosperm. Cotyledon- is the first leaf or pair of leaves produced by the embryo of a plant. Monocot - one leaf Dicot- two leaves. Roots. There are 2 types of roots: Fibrous (Monocot) Ex. Grass, lily, rice Taproots (Dicot)

  2. 2 Classes of Angiosperm • Cotyledon- is the first leaf or pair of leaves produced by the embryo of a plant. • Monocot- one leaf • Dicot- two leaves

  3. Roots • There are 2 types of roots: • Fibrous (Monocot) • Ex. Grass, lily, rice • Taproots (Dicot) • Ex. Carrot, beet, radish

  4. Monocot vs. Dicot • Different arrangement of xylem & phloem. Monocots- scattered veins Dicots- arranged in a circle

  5. Monocot vs. Dicot Leaves • Monocot leaves have parallel veins • Dicot leaves have netted veins

  6. Monocot vs. Dicot Flowers • Monocots have multiples of 3 petals on them. (3,6 or 9). • Dicots have multiples of 4 or 5 petals on them. (8 or 10).

  7. Monocot vs. Dicot Seeds • Monocot seeds have “one leaf” known as a cotyledon. • Dicots have two cotyledons.
