Definition VOTE • Information that is shared through internet technology in a socially networked environment • Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. • Social media are primarily Internet- and mobile-based tools for sharing and discussing information among human beings. Today’s Presenters • First connected to the internet in 1988 through Prodigy • Vegetarian for ten years • Singer in a Huey Lewis and the News tribute band called TheNew Drugs • Has an extensive collection of vintage toasters dating back to the turn of the 20th century.   • Traveled to 10 countries outside of the U.S. • Has some pets, including: French bulldog puppy, 2 English bulldogs, a miniature pot bellied pig that weighs about 100 pounds, a 30-pound rabbit, a stray cat that adopted us, and two goats. We don’t know yet and we shouldn’t know yet…new tools and ideas come about every day. I don’t think we can even begin to imagine the landscape in 5 years (much less 10!) because the technology is changing so quickly…. • Government By the People - Social media is only part of a larger movement towards more open and accessible government.
