  1. Chapter 4: Before & while we read • Before we begin, look at your prediction about what “The Changing” is (Tri 2 Google Doc). • As we are reading today, pay close attention to what we learn about what Thomas is thinking and feeling. • Some of it might be obviously stated, other information might be implied, or require inferring on your part. • Bonus. Be on the look out for some great examples of imageryin this chapter.

  2. Chapter 4 post read • This chapter ends with the sentence,” He did his best to suppress everything he was feeling and followed” (28). • What IS Thomas feeling in this chapter? Explain your answer. (How do you know this even if the author, James Dashner, didn’t come right out and say it?) • Page through the chapter and locate SPECIFIC evidence, and be able to explain why you think this. • Imagery check! What imagery did you see in this chapter?

  3. Chapter 5: before we read • Before we begin reading today, list all of the characters that we have “met” so far. Luckily you can look back at your previous entries to figure out most of the names!  • List them like this: • Thomas: • Gally: • Etc. • Today’s date is Thurs, 1/9 • As we are reading today, THINK about the characters and the words/traits that you would use to describe them. What would be your evidence?

  4. Chapter 5: post read questions • Look at the list that you created before we started reading this chapter. Give each character the most obvious character trait (remember: this should be an adjective) you see for them at this point in the book. • Prove your traitwith support from the book. Example: Johnny: nervous—”He looked like a puppy who had been kicked too many times” (11). • Discuss. How is Dashner starting to pique your interest or build suspense in this chapter? These should go in your Tri 2 Google Doc with today’s date.
