  17. The Parents Group

  18. The Parents Group’s role… It’s quite simple -- we’re here to assist Coach Dunworth with any team activity he’d like our assistance with...PERIOD. OUR SOLE PURPOSE To make the Catholic Central Swimming & Diving team experience -- wonderful, fun and first-class -- for all involved.

  19. How we’re organized… A Leadership Committee: Made up of any Parents who want to get involved. We’re looking for at least two Freshman families to get indoctrinated, for continuity… FRANKLY, WE’RE ALL ON THE LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE!! Committees established: • Competition Committee: responsible for all activities of Parents during home meets at the Livonia Recreation Center/Mercy High School (Leaders: Baldus Family) • Training Table Committee: responsible for the scheduling and coordination of the proper feeding of our athletes after morning practice, before and after meets (Leaders: Karen Kowalczyk & Karen Semaan) • Welcoming Committee: responsible for all efforts to indoctrinate incoming and current Parents into the world of “swimming and diving” and the Catholic Central program. (Looking for Leaders) • Promotion / Communication Committee: responsible for the promoting of the Catholic Central Swimming & Diving program to the media, in-school, at meets -- team website, meet programs, cheat sheets, and official team apparel and accessories. (Leaders: Newman/Baldus Family) • Pep Rally Committee: responsible for the scheduling and coordinating of events for the Team and Parents during the season (Looking for Leaders) • Unities, other activities – see sign up sheet! • Banquet Committee: responsible for the scheduling and coordinating of the year end event. (Chabala/Semaan) • Yearbook Committee: responsible for the publishing of the team’s yearbook. (Leaders: Chabala / Semaan families) WE NEED ALL -- TO GET INVOLVED!!!

  20. Defining commitment for Parents

  21. Our responsibility to this program… The Parents Group is a “VOLUNTEER” organization FYI: Everyone’s been volunteered! We know some can do more than others and that’s okay -- what’s not okay is not getting involvedat all!

  22. We make it fun -- we really do! Here’s how we help out -- the basics: • Hosting our home swim meets (timers, admissions, etc.) • Feeding the boys and visiting team -- after our home meets • Planning, hosting or helping at the “motivation’s” for the team • Planning and facilitating our end of season celebration • Etc. If your son commits to morning practice: We share the responsibility to bring “breakfast” to the boys after each morning practice, before they head off to Catholic Central. A schedule is created -- along with a list of the “do’s and don’ts” of what to bring and what not to bring.

  29. Questions and Answers… • How does my son get to practice during the school week? Answer: Catholic Central does not provide transportation to Mercy High School for practice. Options -- try to be nice to an upperclassmen who has a car and offer to pay gas money for a ride - or, you drive your son. • How do we get involved? (THE MOST ASKED QUESTION OF ALL TIME!) Answer: Just reach out to a Parent heading up a Committee. We promise to have a paper roster and “Cheat Sheet” created before Christmas that has all of the Athletes names -- with their Parents names, phone numbers and email addresses. • How long do the meets typically last? Answer: A dual meet typically lasts no longer than 90 minutes. They’re over quite quickly. The invitational meets: Great Lakes States Invitational, MISCA and the Championship meets: Catholic League and State Meet -- can last three to four hours, per session. • How do we keep track of what’s going on with the team? Answer: Coach Dunworth doesn’t believe in hand outs -- he believes the boys are “old enough” to pay attention at practice and translate important messages to their Parents. However, we do have a “website” -- www.ccswimteam.com -- that has plenty of updated information. Please visit your site. • Where can we buy practice suits, goggles, towels, etc., for our Son? Answer: You can buy them anywhere you want. Different Strokes has a Catholic Central team discount, if you choose to shop at one of their locations. Just be sure to ask for it!

  30. Additional Questions and Answers… • Where do we practice and when? Answer: We practice at Mercy High School - Monday to Saturday. After school during the school week and Saturday mornings. Some swimmers are invited to swim on select mornings -- before school, during the week. Coach Dunworth will extend this invitation. Please note: we do practice during the Winter Break -- every day except for the Holidays and Sundays. The divers make other arrangements -- see Coach Dunworth. • When will practices begin? Answer: The official first day of practice is Monday, November, 22rd at Mercy High School’s pool -- 3:30 PM start. Practice typically runs until 6:00 PM. • Can we attend a practice to watch our son? Answer: No. The pool is off limits to all parents, no exceptions -- during practice. You can always stop in before or after practice -- just not during! • What will we need to purchase for our son to be on the team? Answer: There are only three items required to purchase: A team Speedo suit, team shorts and a team dry land t-shirt. Once you’ve purchased the team shorts and dry land t-shirt you don’t have to purchase them again for subsequent seasons. Official team apparel and accessories will be made available (for order/purchase) today and the first week of practice. Deadline: 12/8/09 • Where do we have our home meets? Answer: Catholic Central rents the Livonia Recreation Center’s pool for our home swim meets. Located off of 5 Mile Road, in Livonia and some home meets this year will be at Mercy High school. • Who do we write our checks to? Answer: Make all checks out to: Catholic Central Swim Team.
