  1. EDUC 2500 Orientation to the Undergraduate Programs

  2. Welcome Orientation to the Undergraduate Programs: This seminar provides an orientation to technology and program skills necessary for successful participation in the undergraduate programs. Students will be introduced to university systems designed to provide support and services to the undergraduate student during the formal program of study. An overview of all facets of the undergraduate programs will be provided, including how to locate course schedules online, how to contact academic advising, and how to access resources. Students will learn interactive technology skills, such as using e-mail and sending attachments, navigating the Internet, accessing the electronic library, using APA format, locating and using the undergraduate Website and using WebCT for online classes.

  3. Outcomes Obtain a NSU network account. Obtain a Personal Identification Number(PIN). Find out how to contact an advisor. Select the correct courses for registration. Register for courses. Locate course textbooks. Use the NSU Library for research. Access WebCT for: online classes chats e-mail discussions submitting assignments Use WebSTAR to: change your personal information. check on financial aid. work with transcripts. get grades. view course descriptions. Use WebMail to: check your e-mail. attach course assignments to your e-mail Locate undergraduate contact information.

  4. Online Computer Access All students will learn to access the Internet to: • access the online library • access course syllabi, materials, and textbook lists. • complete course and assignment research. • participate in courses (WebCT students).

  5. NSU E-Mail Account All students must apply for and use a free NSU e-mail account to: • communicate with NSU faculty and staff. • access the NSU Electronic Library. • access online courses (WebCT students). • receive information. (This is the official method of electronic contact with the university.)

WebSTAR http://webstar.nova.edu • Registration (those students enrolled in the state-approved programs must register with an advisor) • Registration select term • registration and add/drop classes • Student Information • Student records • view holds • final grades • academic transcript • account summary • Financial aid • Personal Information • Change PIN • Update address and phone number • View e-mail address • Name change information

Online Registration (For AA program and the BS concentration in Child Development) with WebSTAR • Clear all holds. • Have the term code and CRN for your class ready. • Link to WebSTAR from NSU’s Home page or link to http://webstar.nova.edu/. • Click Login to Secure Area and use your PIN to log in.

  15. Online Registration http://webstar.nova.edu • The User ID is your NSU Identification Number (ID) • This is your personal identification number that will be mailed to you.

  16. WebSTAR • Enter your NSU ID Number as the User ID. • The PIN is the 6-digit number you receive in the U.S. Mail. • The first time you log on, the system will ask for a security question and answer. • The question will be used if you forget your PIN.

  17. Forgot your PIN? • Press the Forgot PIN button. • Answer your security question. • Enter a new PIN. Or - Call (954) 262-4850 (local) or 1-800-554-6682 (ext. 4850) between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (weekdays). E-mailpinhelp@nova.edu. Your PIN will be mailed to you.

  18. WebSTAR - First Screen • Registration • Student & Financial Aid • Register for classes. • Get your grades, schedule or transcripts. • Student Records • Maintain your personal information. • This is the first place your professor will look for contact information for you.

  21. Drop/Add Classes • To drop a class: • Change the Action from none to Drop. • To add a class: • Enter the CRN • Press Submit Changes.

  30. Enter your username and password. This is the same username and password as your NSU email.

  43. Full Text or Not • Click on the database name of your choice. • Be sure to select Full Text (if you only want to search databases with full text articles).
