Unusual Incidents Policy What is an Unusual Incident? • NOT ORDINARY, NOT NORMAL • Suspected Child Abusealso call Abuse Hotline • Accusation, Notice that RCMA did something wrongthat Child Protection and/or Licensing investigates • Insurance Issues – Damage to buildings, vehicles by fire, crash, or weather; Injuries to staff, kids, visitors • Closing center for lack of water, electricity, septic problems • Lockdown Incidents – dangerous people or situations that cause you to “Lockdown” the center • Missing child incident or child left unsupervised • Others: Fire, wildfire evacuation, toxic materials, 911, death

  2. Report Unusual Incidents • Who Reports? • Person in Charge or • Whoever is able to safely place the call • -- or --

  3. Report Unusual Incidents When to Call: • As Soon As Possible, but • Only when it is safe to make call OK, let’s think about how you’ll wash hands. Hi, Gyla. I’m calling to tell you the water is off in our whole neighborhood because of a broken pipe out on the main road.

Report Unusual Incidents Why Make Reports? • We can help you solve the problem! • Concern for what you are going through – staff, the families, children – may need extra help • We need to be prepared for possible callsfrom the parents or others (like newspapers) • RCMA has liability - (lawsuits) • Required reports to funding sources(& they have deadlines!)
