  1. Church Growth Task Force Summary First Lutheran Church Annual Meeting February 11, 2012

  2. Identifying the Barriers The CGTF identified six primary barriers to sustained growth: • Volunteer burnout. • Lack of ways to integrate new members. • Lack of shared engagement/ownership as members of First Lutheran. • Crowding at some services and lack of parking space. • Lack of change champions/leaders. • Lack of discovery of spiritual gifts.

  3. 5 Year Action Plan • Volunteerism • Develop job descriptions for volunteer positions. • Create a spiritual gifts program. • Develop a leadership program for small group leaders and new-member sponsors.

  4. 5 Year Action Plan • Infrastructure • Develop a succession plan for leader volunteers with time limits. • Develop a small group/cell program organized around spiritual gifts. • Provide usher training for efficient seating.

  5. 5 Year Action Plan • Facility • Explore a second Sunday Service. • Analyze the capacity of existing space based on growth projections. • Design and implement a safe playground area. • Explore expanded kitchen space and new equipment. • Explore expanding the altar area in order to accommodate expanding music program. • Enlarge parking lot (phase I completed).

  6. 5 Year Action Plan • Integrate New Members • Implement paper nametags in bulletin/pens in pews for pastor to ask congregants to fill out during announcements at beginning of service. • Extend new member sponsorship program to an ongoing “buddy” program for new members to engage them in the congregation. • See that new members have the opportunity to participate in the spiritual gifts program as well as to join a small group that fits with their spiritual gifts.

  7. 5 Year Action Plan • Vision of a Changing Church • Design a mechanism to interface with the Spiritual Gifts database to identify and ask change champions to lead. • Learn about synod and church-wide resources and how to access; build relationships with synod resources to draw on for helping with FLC needs.

  8. 5 Year Action Plan • Financial Development • Educate the congregation on the financial obligations of the church. • Determine new term for finances other than “stewardship.”
