  1. SCTP Applicability Statement Signalling Transport Working Group sigtran Michael Tüxen, Siemens (the present GTT of Lode Coene, Siemens Atea)

  2. Application statement for SCTP • <draft-sigtran-sctp-applic-state-00.txt> • It describes the general issues concerning transport of data overSCTP • Published • Should answer questions like: • How can I use SCTP to provide required services for my application/system?” • What functions/benefits will it provide? • What functions won't it provide? • What things might I want to consider/modify for my particular system?

  3. Application statement for SCTP • Open Issues: • be more explicit on congestion control issues • more info on window sizes(ex for satelite use) • more info on randomness of the initital Tag Sequencenumber(TSN) • adaptations layers not mandatory, should be clearly mentioned • Section on "Recommendations" -> any suggestions? • Other suggestions, text, figures, whatever .... warmly welcomed

  4. Signalling transport over SCTP applicability statement • It describes the specifics of transporting signalling over SCTP • The signalling transport over SCTP AS was previously known as the SS7-over-IP AS. • It should be more general : M3UA, M2UA, M2UA-peer, IUA, SCUA • Consists of 3 parts: • Signalling transport using SCTP:adaptation layers, multihoming, congestion issues…. • Adaptation layers in detail • addressing and naming (how to get from here to there, : IPaddresses and names, SS7 addresses and names, usage, role of DNS • Not out yet, a first draft will be out after Adelaide.

  5. Document matters • Additional contributions greatly appreciated • In any case: Talk to, send to, phone Lode Coene, Siemens Atea John Loughney, Nokia Email: Lode.Coene@siemens.atea.be phone: +32-14-25-2081 • “And Know for something completely different...”

  6. Conclusion • UDT(CLD: Adelaide, CLG: Atea, User data: Lode Coene) ->GTT -> routing error -> UDTS(Errorcode: No translation for such a address) • UDT(CLD: Munich, CLG: Atea, User data: Lode Coene) -> GTT -> UDT(CLD: Munich Machtlfinger, CLG: Atea, User data: Lode Coene) -> GTT -> UDT(DPC: SCTP bakeoff, OPC: who cares, User data: finally a place where they have real Beer...)
