  1. December 2011 Updates: Trip to Canberra Day 2 Part 2 After lunch we went to the Mini Q area, that especially caters for the budding scientists, up to age 6. Even when waiting to go in we found stuff to look at in the lockers area!

  2. We started off with the cars and gasoline station, to Alma’s great delight.

  3. Then we checked out the sensory area, which is dark and full of interesting lights to explore and lots of tactile surfaces, which both girls found stimulating. From the sensory area there is a tunnel leading to...

  4. The water fun area! They have the best ever babies exploration station!

  5. Hahgoot turned the wheel until she created a flood!

  6. After exploring every possible aspect of water physics, Alma tested gravity with the active jungle gym zone.

  7. Hahgoot was getting a bit erratic with her behaviour (clear sign of too much sensory input) so I took her back to the sensory area to calm down. Alma checked the restaurant area and then we all met again at the space centre.

  8. The space centre was fantastic; designed as a cross between a space ship and a laboratory.

  9. Everyone found a button to press and while Alma shared her blocks nicely, Hahgoot jumped from start to planet.

  10. After 45 minutes of intense Mini Q fun we got out and while I got our things together Barak did some scientific magic with the girls and a random friend.

  11. Before heading back to the hotel we chilled down with an ice cream break

  12. Hahgoot had a tremendous time and couldn’t stop exploring, even after leaving the Questacon!

  13. Our car was parked across the street, at the national library, so we walked there and stopped to check out an interesting installation, that included sound.

  14. Barak couldn’t resist and stopped at the National Library, where he booked us for a tour of the current exhibition, about manuscripts of famous people, for the next day.

  15. Back at the hotel I tried to balance Hahgoot with a combination of exercise, weighted vest, TV, and drawing, until Barak finished freshening up and we were ready to go out for dinner.

  16. Hahgoot was happy to explore the artworks on the way to the restaurant

  17. As you can see, she was in an excellent mood and happy to ride very far from us, fast, on her scooter, in the eerily deserted streets of the CBD.

  18. We had dinner at a Chinese restaurant

  19. We interacted with more artworks on the way back to the hotel. Bottom left: we saw a Vinnies Night Patrol, that gives a hot drink, food and sympathy to the homeless.

  20. Top right: a rare mother-daughter moment

  21. Alma didn't stay in the pram for long... Now you can see why I bought her a new helmet....

  22. We saw a giant mural and lots of artworks...

  23. Back at the hotel Hahgoot was happy to participate in the night routine, and following the lesson learned from the night before, was extra quiet when bed time arrived. In our next presentation: The National Australian Museum and the National Library
