  1. The Number Theory Made By Aaron M.

  2. Natural Counting Numbers • Natural Counting Numbers are {1,2,3…} • Whole Numbers are like Counting Numbers. They just have a 0 instead • Ex. {0,1,2,3…}= Counting Numbers • Remember Whole Numbers has the hole “0”

  3. Integers • All of the Whole Numbers and their opposites • Contain twice as many numbers plus 1 more than the Natural Numbers • Set of Integers has many numbers minus 1 than the set of Whole Numbers • Ex. {-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3…}= Intergers

  4. Rational Numbers • A Rational Number is any number that can be represented as a Fraction. This includes all integers and decimals that end or repeat. This also includes some square roots.

  5. Irrational Numbers • An Irrational Number is a number that can’t be represented as a fraction. This includes most square roots and • An irrational square root is

  6. Real Numbers • Real Numbers are all Rational and Irrational Numbers. Ex. {

  7. Complex/Imaginary Numbers • There is only one Complex/Imaginary Number

  8. Order of Operations

  9. Symbols • Parenthesis (and any other grouping symbols) • Exponents • Multiplication & Division (in order from left to right) • Addition & Subtraction (in order from left to right) Ex. PEMDAS

  10. The Distributive Property

  11. The Distributive Property is a way to get rid of the parenthesis in an expression Ex.3(x+2) is the same as x+2+x+2+x+2 and that equals 3x+6 The short cut is to multiply the 3 times the x and the 3 times the 2. Your answer is 3x+6 It’s the same with variables a(b+c)=ab+ac

  12. Sample Problems • Which Number is a Whole Number? • 1 • -2 • -5 • -1

  13. Which one is an Integer? A.-2 B.-4 C.2 D. All of the above

  14. What is an example of Order of Operations? A.FOIL B.PEMDAS C.I=PRT D.

  15. What is the answer to 3(a+3)? a.3a+9 b.3a+6 c.3a+10 d. None of the above

  16. What is a Rational Number? • A number that is negative • The square root of a number • A number that can be turned into a Fraction • A number that can’t be turned into a Fraction
