Choosing a School • Field of Study • Single most important element • You go to school for the degree not to play ball • Environment • Visit the school • Check out the surroundings • Ask yourself am I going to be happy here? • Coaching Staff • This is a relationship • Make sure you like the coach • You will be married to them for the next 4 years potentially • Players • Talk to players on the team. • Make sure it’s a good fit

Scholarships • Division I and II • 7.2 Full Scholarships Athletic • Usually only Pitchers get a full ride • Package is Athletic and Academic • Always more Academic Money then Athletic • Division III • No Athletic Money • More Academic money • Packages are higher then D-I and D-II • NAIA • 1o Full Ride Scholarships

How to Get Seen by College Coaches • School Camps and Clinics • #1 Method of recruiting • Go to the camps and clinics offered by the schools • Go to Key Tournaments • #1 Recruiting tournament nationwide • TCS Colorado Sparkler / Fireworks • ASA Nationals • Local Nationals • High School State Tournament • Contact the School • Every school has a web site with perspective athlete questionnaire – Fill it out (Doesn’t cost anything)

College Recruiting is a Job Search • Key is to market yourself • Make all correspondence personal • All correspondence should be personal • What you have to offer the program • Why you want to go to that school • Mention the mascot and always be positive! • Spelling, grammar and sentence structure matter! • Videos • Less then 10 min • Most Important • Personal Greeting. • Friendly and very positive (SMILE) • 15 swings • 1 x running home to 1st • 5 ground balls / 5 fly balls

How to Get Crossed off the List • Attitude • Bad Team Interaction • Negative Communications skills • Parent Interaction • Too Many Teams • That is a red flag! • Bad Grades • Lack of Hustle • No Extracurricular Activites • How You Handle Adversity • Its not about success all the time! • Cliché that in this game failure is more common then success

  8. How to Get Crossed off the List • Profanity • Appearance • Lack of Eye Contact • Especially when talking to a coach • Lack of Passion / Commitment on an off the field • Excuses • Negative Comments on and off the field

How to Stand-Out Amongst the Rest • Pitchers • Change-up • Cannot pitch successfully at the next level without it • Better be able to throw it anywhere in the count and location • Fighter / Handle Failure • Good Fielder • Spin, Spots and Speed • Catchers • LEADERSHIP • Be vocal and always positive • Handle pitchers and fielders (Keep everyone alert and in the game
