Statistical system of BiH • The BiH Agency for Statistics is the most important official source of statistics and statistical information in Bosnia and Herzegovina State level Entity level Agency for statistics BIH BHAS Central Bank of BIH CBiH Federal Office of Statistics FZS Republika Srpska Institute of Statistics RZSRS

Education Statistics in BiH • Objective of education statistics is to present dataon condition, structure and development ofschools (basic schools, secondary schools andhigher education institutions), data on structureof students and teachers, data on results ofeducation and factors that affect the results. • SOURCE OF DATA Agency for Statistics of BiH aggregates andpublishes data collected onthe basis of statisticaleducation surveys implemented by entity statistical offices and District Brcko.

  4. Education Statistics in BiH • Improve existing methodology of education statistics in B&H to be compliance with UOE methodology and other Eurostat’s standards • Implementation ISCED 2011 • EU project - Strengthening capacity for Human Resource Development in B&H

Population of BiH Sources and methods of data collection • The data on population and households have beencollected by Census every ten years and by unifiedmethodology on all areas of B&H. • The latest Census of B&H was taken in 1991. • Number of habitants: Estimation of current population(30.06.2011.) 3.839.737

CensusofPopulation,Households and Dwellings in B&H • In October 2012 Pilot CensusofPopulation,Households and Dwellings in B&H • The Census shall be conducted in the period from 1 to 15 April 2013, according to thesituation as on 31 March 2013 at 24:00 hours (midnight) defined as the reference date of the Census.

Surveys • Labour Force Survey(LFS) Population frame, Sample • Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) • Living standards Measurement Survey 2001(LSMS survey )-multi-topic survey which collect information on variables related to basicaspects of household welfare. • General problem for all surveys – providing representative sample

Administrative data • Using of administrative data • The main problem of using administrative data Administrative databases are metodological diferent and we can’t use them as a relevant source of data. • Administrative system of B&H is very complex and institutional metodologies are not harmonized.

Education indicators for the MDGs in B&H • Net enrolment rate in primary education (estimation of population) • Proportion of startiong grade 1 who reach last grade of primary (estimation of population) • Literacy rate of 15-24 year - olds (estimation of population) • Women to men parity index, as ratio of literacy rates, 15-24 years old • Primary completion rate (estimation of population)

  10. Education indicators for the MDGs in B&H • Ratio of girls to boys in primary education • Ratio of female students enrolled at primary levels in public and private schools to male students.

  11. Education indicators for the MDGs in B&H • Ratio of girls to boys in secondary education • Ratio of female students enrolled at secondary levels in public and private schools to male students.
