Bringing Enough Money

  • It is generally recommended that students do not open a bank account when arriving in China.

  • There are conveniently located banks where non-account-holders can exchange USD into RMB, cash traveler's checks in RMB, and withdraw RMB from a US checking account via a Chinese ATM.

  • If you consistently eat local food, summer food costs will be about $500.00 USD

  • Students should bring up to $250 in cash and the remainder available in traveler's checks or in a US checking account with an ATM card.
