To 160 ks: 2.8 Ms • Planck z<0.35 cluster survey, to complete 165: 1 Ms • SMC: deep study of low Z populations: 1.1 Ms • PWNe: deep observations of 3: 1.3 Ms Process: • XVP panel (6 pundits) discussed all proposals and brought recommendations to BPP • Topical panels discussed XVPs and LPs, as usual • Final decisions made by BPP after discussion of highest-ranked proposals • BPP moved ~1.2Ms to LPs (+0.2Ms from TPs) • Final over-subscription for both = 6.6 CUC 10-11 Oct 2012 Chandra Director’s Office

GO Budget • GO budget: $10.5M • Includes: Observing, Archive ($1.05M), Theory ($0.6M) • Cycle 14: overall decreasing budget projected ~$0.7M cut for first time • Cycle 12-16: 15-25% increase in awarded time (orbit evolution) • Cycle 13 awards: median $42K, average $54K, decrease ~10% SR2012: • CXC requested GO budget augmentation to compensate decrease in budget and $/time awarded • 50% of proposed augmentation was approved • theory, archive funding at same level • increase in GO total budget • Cycle 14 awards: median $46.4K, average $59K CUC 10-11 Oct 2012 Chandra Director’s Office

NASA/China Restrictions and Chandra • NASA GIC 12-01, 9 Feb 2012: restricting bi-lateral collaboration with China or Chinese-government owned entity • RJB+MSFC personnel met with NASA HQ personnel to discuss issue • China-US/China-only proposals considered bi-lateral and cannot be supported • No bi-lateral China-US proposals approved in Cycle 14 • All Cost PIs required to sign a form: “Assurance of Compliance” with this regulation • This restriction will be explicitly included in the Cycle 15 CfP CUC 10-11 Oct 2012 Chandra Director’s Office

Cycle 15: X-ray Visionary Projects • Cycle 14: • 4 (of 17) proposals accepted • Over-subscription 6.6 (time) • Surveyed panel chairs: • Generally supported balance of time (~ on category) • Most did not feel XVPs were >> LPs, just larger • Supported continuation of XVP-level language • Cycle 15: plan to include a third XVP call • Time available is significantly lower, 20 Ms (TBR): • GO 11 Ms • LP 4 Ms • XVP 5 Ms • Propose to run peer review similarly CUC 10-11 Oct 2012 Chandra Director’s Office
