Define. • What is censorship? • “The term censorship…as commonly understood, connotes any examination of thought or expression in order to prevent publication of ‘objectionable’ material.” –U.S. Supreme Court, Farmers Educational & Coop. Union v. WDAY, Inc. (1959) • Do you have any questions about this definition?

  4. Listen & Write. • Listen to Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence”. • How do you think this song relates to Fahrenheit 451? • Write a brief reflection (at least 5 sentences) explaining the connections you made.

  5. Agree or Disagree? 1. Organized censorship is never acceptable.

  6. Agree or Disagree? 2. The government has the right to censor anything.

  14. Homework. • Read to page 106 or the end of section two in your copy. • There will be a reading quiz at the beginning of class.

  15. Write. What do you think Fahrenheit 451 can teach us about censorship?
