Camps • Why do young people participate in camps in the summer? • Develop skills • Interested—no time during school • If hosted by celebrity, they think they can “get their foot in the door” • Why do parents like them? • Personal lesson with superstar • Location • Get rid of kids for the week?????

  5. What would draw more attendance to the camp? • Your ideas…

  6. Ways to enhance camp’s potential to be successful… • Strong promotional campaign: • Involvement of athletes • Testimonials • Strong media coverage

  7. Things a camp can do to advertise services… • Variety of media and methods: • Radio announcements • Local TV ads • Contests • Press releases • Interviews • Giveaways (t-shirts, sunglasses, etc. w/ sponsors) • Community appearance

  8. Difference b/w camp and clinic… • Clinic— • Shorter time frame • Concentrate on 1-2 skills • Introduce a sport to beginners • Lower costs • Another name would be a “workshop”

  9. Targeted advertising… • Magazines & E-zine • Read by enthusiasts • Greater audience • Need greater lead time for magazines • Mailings & Brochures • Direct mail—expensive; but, sent to researched group of customers—more success
