  2. Your Tablet PC • Congratulations on your new Tablet PC! • Your tablet comes with • a stylus • an extended battery • a power adapter • a personal case • Let’s see how it works.

  3. Placing the Tablet in the Case • Unzip and open your case.

  4. Placing the Tablet in the Case • Place your tablet in the case.

  5. Placing the Tablet in the Case • Push the release latch located on the front of the tablet to the right in order to open it.

  6. Placing the Tablet in the Case • Secure the tablet under the case straps. • The bottom of the tablet should be behind the black straps and the monitor tucked behind the plastic straps. • You must keep the tablet in the case at all times.

  7. Placing the Tablet in the Case • When you receive your stylus, tuck the tether in between the tablet and case so it is out of the way when you close and zip your case.

  8. Closing Your Tablet • Please close your tablet and case.

  9. Opening Your Tablet PC • Push the release latch to the right to open the tablet. • Slide the silver power button to the right to turn on the tablet.

  10. Logging In • The network login screen will appear. Wait about one minute before selecting OK. • Type your username: S and 6 digit ID# • ex: S123456. • Type your password. You should have created a new password if you have already logged into a desktop computer this year (refer to next slide if you haven’t done so).

Logging In • If you haven’t changed your password: • Login to a desktop computer in your classroom • Username: Capital S and 6 digit ID# (ex: S123456) • Password: Lowercase s and 6 digit ID# (ex: s123456) • It will then prompt you to change your password • After changing your password, wait 5 minutes and return to your tablet and log in.

  12. Important • If you cannot log in, please let your teacher know. • Your teacher will fill out a form and someone will be by to pick it up. ***Note – Please indicate the specific student issue on the Work Order Request • Those students who can’t log on may want to look on with a neighbor.

  13. Check Your Battery • Your tablet is not fully charged. Once logged in you will be able to check your battery. Click on the battery icon in the notification area on the bottom right part of your screen. • If you lose battery power during this period, a few students at a time can take turns plugging in to an outlet. You can also look onto a neighbor’s tablet to follow along.

  14. Going to Tablet Mode 1. Remove the plastic straps from the monitor’s corners. 2. Swivel the screen CLOCKWISE only.

  15. Turning the Tablet Screen Never try to force the screen in a particular direction. Forcing the screen could result in damaging the tablet monitor, which costs $703 to replace.

  16. Turning the Tablet Screen • Place the tablet screen back under the plastic straps. • Lay the screen down until it clicks and latches. • Remove the Velcro flap from the case.

  17. Turning the Tablet Screen 1. • Carefully lift back the front flap. • Tuck it under the tablet. • You are now in “tablet” mode. 2. 3.

  18. The Stylus • Make sure that your stylus is connected by the tether at all times. • If you end up breaking/losing your stylus it costs $20 to replace.

  19. Screen Orientation • To change the orientation of the screen, press the button with your stylus or finger (there is an opening where the button is). • You can change the display to portrait or landscape mode.

  20. Steps to closing your Tablet PC (when in Tablet mode) • Push the release latch to the right and lift monitor up. • Remove the plastic straps from the monitor.

  21. Steps to closing your Tablet PC • Swivel the screen counterclockwise until it sets in place. • Once the screen faces you, place the monitor corners back in the plastic straps.

  22. Steps to closing your Tablet PC • Shut the tablet until it closes and zip the case. • Always make sure to zip the case so your tablet is secure. • Not zipping your case could result in the tablet sliding out and being damaged.

  23. Charging Your Tablet • Plug in your power adapter into the back of the tablet every night in order to have a fully-charged computer for the next school day.

Five Day Rule • As soon as you know there is something wrong with your tablet, turn in a work order. • You MUST turn in a work order within FIVE days of the accident or malfunction. • Failure to do so may result in you having to pay for the repair. • It is important to turn it in as soon as you know there is a problem.

  28. New Work Order • This year, after the first week, there will be no paper work order forms. • All repair requests will be completed online. • You can access the repair work order website while you are on campus. • You will not be able to submit a work order from home.

  29. New Work Order • You can turn in a work order on any computer – your tablet, the computers in the classroom, the library computers, etc. • It does NOT have to be completed on your personal tablet. • The Work Order Request (WOR) is an online form, so it does require an internet connection.

  30. Logging in to the WOR • Links to WOR will be available in LMS and on StudentNet • You will login using your Klein username & password s and 6 digit ID# • ex: s123456

  31. Setting Your Schedule • The first time you login, it will ask you to enter your grade and your schedule. • Please be as accurate as possible.

  32. Was it an Accident? • Now you need to answer whether it was an accident or not.

  33. Describe Your Problem • You will get different screens depending on whether it was an accident or not. • Either way, please explain what happened and what is wrong with your tablet in detail. • You must answer all questions in order to proceed. • Click Save when done.

  35. Submitted! • After clicking save, you will get a message that you have successfully updated the form. Click OK. • You will get a message that you have logged out of the Work Order Request System.

  36. What Next? • Now, take your tablet to the repair center during the designated times on your campus. • When you get there, the repair center secretary will make sure your form is complete. • IF YOU HAVE NOT ANSWERED the questions APPROPRIATELY and COMPLETELY, you will be sent back to class to edit your work order.

  37. Editing Your Work Order • You will log back into the online WOR system. • Once logged in, you should see the work orders you have submitted. • Click on the top one to edit it.

  38. Editing Your Work Order • Go back and make sure your statement is complete. • Click Save when you are finished.

  40. Examples of Complete Answers • “I accidentally dropped a textbook on my tablet while taking it out of my backpack. Left side of tablet is cracked and several keys flew off the tablet on impact.” • “I accidentally knocked a cup over and it spilled on my tablet when I put my bag down in class. Tablet will not turn on anymore.”

  41. Examples of Complete Answers • “My tablet fell off my desk when someone walked by and accidentally knocked it off. The hinge is loose and the screen won’t stay up.” • “I accidentally dropped my tablet in the hallway when bumped by a student running and now the screen flickers and the hinge is wobbly.”

Student Responsibilities • Return your Tablet PC fully chargedeveryday to school • Carry your Tablet PC in the case at all times • Do not loan your Tablet PC to anyone…this is YOUR learning tool • You may not play games, load or download any software, music or pictures on the Tablet PC unless instructed by a teacher to do so • Do not place food or liquids near your Tablet PC

Student Responsibilities (cont.) • No stickers, skins, or other adhesive objects to your Tablet PC • Never leave your Tablet PC unattended in school or in a vehicle • Tablet PCs are NOT to be used on Klein buses • Backup all important documents or files to your N: Drive on a weekly basis. You cannot access this network drive from home, so keep all working files on your My Documents folder • Take care of your tablet

  47. Student Responsibilities (cont.) • It is your responsibility to bring your fully charged tablet to school everyday • Your tablet MUST REMAIN in the tablet case at all times or it will be taken up

Student Discipline (Minor) • Below are listed some minor infractions and consequences Infractions Tablet not placed in tablet case Unauthorized programs (Limewire, Frostwire, Yod’3m, etc.) Games, Movies Proxies Writing on case Letting other students use computer Leaving computer unattended Giving password to another student Off task in class (accessing Internet, playing games) Inappropriate websites Giving files to other students on flash drives Theft of stylus Theft of files Cheating on tests/quizzes using technology Chat sites Consequences $5 fee for unattended tablets or tablets without cases $15 reimaging fee Lunch Detention ISS

Student Discipline (Major) • Below is listed some major infractions and consequences Possession of pornography/Any content that is sexual in nature(Based on the severity of the offense, this consequence could range from ISS to expulsion.) A minimum of 3 days ISS for first time offense -- DAEP placement for subsequent infractions. Possible expulsion and/or criminal charges if determined to be child pornography. Distribution of pornography – DAEP placement Intentional damage to tablet Consult KISD police for cost and possible restitution and/or criminal charges to be filed. Could range from ISS to DAEP placement or possible expulsion. Access to violent websites, movies Depending on content, could range from ISS to DAEP placement

Student Discipline (Major) Hacking into school databases/Hacking software DAEP placement or possible expulsion Obtaining personal information of staff/students with intent to do harm DAEP placement or possible expulsion Cyber-bullying Discipline based upon specifics—could range from ISS to DAEP placement Home movies with inappropriate content (pornography, drug use, gang references) Could range from ISS to DAEP placement Pictures of fellow students (underage or inappropriate) Discipline/Criminal charges based upon specifics—could range from ISS to DAEP or possible expulsion
