  1. COMMUNICATE VIA A TACTICAL RADIO IN A SECURE NET TASK: Communicate via a tactical radio in a secure net. CONDITIONS: Given an AN/PRC-119 or AN/PRC-77, the required accessories, and a requirement to send a message. STANDARDS: As a RadioTelephone Operator (RTO), with an AN/PRC-119 (dismounted or mounted) or AN/PRC-77 and required accessories, place a message within 3 minutes.

The challenge is to provide those avenues to establish and maintain the individual or unit's needs to communicate.

  7. ESTABLISHING COMMUNICATIONS 1. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION 2. ENTER THE NET 3. TRANSMIT A RADIO MESSAGE

  8. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION 4 MAJOR STEPS SET BATTERY LIFE CONDITIONS TEST TRANSMITTER PRESET CONTROLS TEST RT CIRCUITS

  9. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION PRESET CONTROLS 1. Turn Function (FTCN) to OFF. 2. Turn RF Power (RF) to LO.

  10. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION PRESET CONTROLS 4. Turn the MODE to SC. 3. Turn the Channel (CHAN) to MAN.

  11. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION PRESET CONTROLS 6. Turn the Volume (VOL) to MIDRANGE. 5. Turn the COMSEC to CT.

  12. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION PRESET CONTROLS 6. Turn the DIM to MIDRANGE. 7. Turn FTCN switch to "TST".

  13. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST RT CIRCUITS 1. Set FCTN to Z-FH.

  14. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST RT CIRCUITS 2. Display shows GOOD.

  15. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST RT CIRCUITS 3. Key handset twice to clear COMSEC Alarm.

  16. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST RT CIRCUITS 4. Turn FTCN switch to TST.

  17. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST RT CIRCUITS 5. Display should cycle in the sequence shown.

  18. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST RT CIRCUITS 6. Signal strength cycles from LO to HI.

  19. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST TRANSMITTER 1. Set FCTN to SQ ON.

  20. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION TEST TRANSMITTER 2. Key handset. 3. SIG Marker must be in position shown, plus or minus one position.

  21. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION SET BATTERY LIFE CONDITION Use when installing a new battery or FTCN switch is set to OFF

  22. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION SET BATTERY LIFE CONDITION 1. Set FTCN to LD 2. Press BATT/CALL and CLR buttons.

  23. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION SET BATTERY LIFE CONDITION 3. Enter battery life condition numbers (if battery has previously been used)and press STO to start clock.

  24. PLACE THE RADIO INTO OPERATION SET BATTERY LIFE CONDITION • A new battery will be set to 00. • A used battery should have the battery life condition numbers written on the side of it.

  26. ENTER THE NET PREPARE RADIO 2. Turn COMSEC switch to "CT". 1. Turn FCTN switch to "LD".

  27. ENTER THE NET LOAD FREQUENCIES Set the RT Controls: 1. Set COMSEC to PT. 2. Set MODE to SC.

  28. ENTER THE NET LOAD FREQUENCIES Set the RT Controls: 3. Set FCTN to Z-FH, TST, and then to LD. 4. Set CHAN to MAN

  29. ENTER THE NET LOAD FREQUENCIES 3. Press STO. To Load the Frequency: 1. Press FREQ - display shows 30000. 2. Press CLR - display shows _ _ _ _ _. • Enter the frequency.

  30. ENTER THE NET LOAD FREQUENCIES To Load the Frequency: Repeat each step for each frequency needed. 4. Set FCTN to SQ ON.

  31. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 1. COMSEC should be at CT. 2. FCTN should be at LD. 3. MODE should be at FH.

  32. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 4. CHAN should be at MAN. 5. Press the DATA (4) button to turn DATA OFF.

  33. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 6. Turn on the Automated Net Control Device (ANCD).

  34. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 7. In the display, select RADIO. 8. Select SEND.

  35. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 9. Select send to RADIO. 10. Select ICOM.

  36. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data + 11. Connect the RT AUD/FILL Connector 11½. When the arrow appears in the lower right hand corner, you must press the down arrow to proceed!

  37. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 12. Set FCTN to LD on the RT.

  38. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 13. Load the time as part of ICOM Fill during net openings and Hot Start late Net entry only

  39. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 14. Press LOAD on RT.

  40. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 15. The ANCD will show Transfer in progress and then Transfer Successful.

  41. ENTER THE NET Load COMSEC/FH Data 16. Turn FCTN to SQ ON.

  42. TRANSMIT A RADIO MESSAGE Set the Controls 1. MODE to FH/M 2. CHAN to MAN

  43. TRANSMIT A RADIO MESSAGE 5. CHAN to MAN Set the Controls 4. MODE to FH/M 3. FCTN to LD

  44. TRANSMIT A RADIO MESSAGE Enter the net. • Determine the abbreviated call sign and answering sequence for your duty position

  45. TRANSMIT A RADIO MESSAGE Respond to the NCS Respond to the NCS issuing a net call, answering in alphanumeric sequence. At this time, the NCS acknowledges and the net is open. NCS: ECHO THREE ECHO THIS IS ECHO FOUR SIX-OVER S-2: ECHO FOUR SIX THIS IS ECHO ONE THREE-OVER S-1: ECHO FOUR SIX THIS IS ECHO THREE NINE -OVER NCS: ECHO THREE ECHO THIS IS ECHO FOUR SIX-ROGER-OUT

  46. TRANSMIT A RADIO MESSAGE Send a message. • Listen to make sure the net is clear. Do not interrupt any ongoing communications. • Call the NCS and tell the operator the priority of the message you have for his or her station. • Receive a response from the NCS that he or she is ready to receive

  47. TRANSMIT A RADIO MESSAGE Prowords and Pronunciation Send your message using the correct prowords and pronunciation of letters and numbers. Get a receipt for the message.
