LIMITED GOVERNMENT

Even the people who make the laws have to obey them. Constitutions, statements of rights, or other laws set limits on how much power government officials have so they cannot take advantage of the people.

REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY

Government of the people, for the people. People have a say in what laws are created. The people vote for representatives to represent them in government.

CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY

House of Parliament

Has King/Queen and a Parliament. King/Queen do not make laws or tell people what they can or can’t do. Prime Minister and Parliament run the government.

UNLIMITED GOVERNMENT

Power belongs to the ruler or rulers. No rules or laws exist to limit what the ruler can or cannot do.

DICTATORSHIP

Hitler

One person has all the power in the government and dictates what people can and can’t do.

ABSOLUTE MONARCHY

Kings & Queens have all the power and tell people what they can and can’t do.

A nation or state in which the clergy exercise political power and in which religious law is dominant over civil law. Iran led by the Ayatollah Khomeini was a theocracy under the Islamic clergy. (SeeIslam.)
