  4. GroupofStudies in HigherEducation - GSHE • Coordinator: Renato H. L. Pedrosa • The GSHE is a permanent CAS groupdedicatedtoresearchandotheractivitiesonregardingHigherEducation, focusingonpolicyissuesatthenationallevel as well as oninternationalcomparativestudies. • Maininterests: • Curriculum andacademicstructure (traditionandinnovation) • Institutionaldiversity (academic, management and financial aspects) • Access policies (equity in accessandaffirmativeaction policies) • Qualityassurance (assessmentoflearningoutcomes) • Internacionalization(perspectives for theBrazilianresearchuniversities)

GroupofStudies in Sports - GSS • Coordinator: Paulo César Montagner • The GSS isdedicatedtoresearchon Sports as a social phenomenon, including its personalandeducational perspectives as well. • Maininterests: • Humanitiesandsports • Science andsports • Management andsports • Largesportevents (World Cup, Olympics)

GroupofBrazil-China Studies - GBCS • Coordinator: Leila • The GBCS has as its mainobjectivethedeepunderstandingofthe role China plays in thecontemporary world as a whole, withfocusontheBrazil-China interactions. • Maininterests: • Topromotetheunderstandingof China in a global comparative perspective • Tofostertheacademiccooperationbetween Unicamp and its Chinesecounterparts • ToexpandUnicamp’srelationshipswithBrazilianinstitutions (governmentornot) thathaveinteractionswith China • To help spread theknowledgeandinformationon China around campus andto incentive thelearningofMandarinamongUnicamp’sstudents.

GroupofContemporaryStudies – GCS (in formation) • Coordinator: Alcir Pécora • The GCS gathers a groupofspecialists in theArts, theSciencesandtheHumanitieswho are interested in thestudyofthevariousnotionsofcrisis (in culture, in thehumanities, ofparadigms, ofrepresentation, ofcriticism, etc.) as a privilegedformofdebatingthechallenges, in bothhistoricalandtheoretical perspectives, facingsocieties in the 21st Century world. • Maininterestsandobjectives: • To look for a common vocabularyamongthevariousareastoallow for a properunderstandingofthemeaningofcrisis in thecontemporary world • Touse thenotionofcrisistoquestionthenotionofthecoontemporary • Toprovide subsidies toprojectsthatinvolvethe debate ofcontemporaryissues

GroupofStudies in HigherEducation – GSHE • What’scoming • Startingwiththecurrentissue, Unicamp HEd J. includes thePortugueseversionofInternationHigherEducation, originallypublishedbythe Center ofInternationalHigherEducation (Boston College, Philip Altbach) • In July, theCEAvandthe Pro-rectorateofrUndergraduateStudieswillpromotethe 1st “Zeferino Vaz” SchoolofHigherEducation, withtheparticipationof Jamil Salmi (formerly World Bank), Philip Altbach (BC), Phil Baty (THE), Liz Reisberg (BC), Peter Dourmashkin (MIT), Pedro Rosso (Catholic U., Chile), Simon Shwartzman (IEDI/Brazil) andothers. • In November, CEAvwill organize a seminaron HE andtheemergingeconomies, withthepurposeofdebatingthecontentsof a book thatwillbepublishedby Springer and Unicamp nextyear, undertheeditorshipof Simon Schwartzman, Romulo Pinheiro andPundyPillay. • Various joint projects, amongthem: CSHE/Berkeley (SERU), a Master Plan for theUniversityof São Paulo (USP) and, hopefully, with HSE/Moscow. 
