Thoughts from Movie Clip • Airfield attack first • Battleship row second • U.S. and Japan were in negotations of peace because tensions were high, U.S. regularly sent gifts to Japan, Japan sent gifts back, acting like false hope for peace • The torpedos that the japanese used in the attack were specially made to account for the shallow water of pearl harbor; wooden cross section were placed over propeller

  4. Only destroyers, and battleships were in port that day • All aircraft carriers were out doing drills • Airfield attacks: all the planes in the americanairforce were grouped together making it easier to • Two most famous battle ships: Oklahoma, and Arizona

  5. All eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four being sunk. Of the eight damaged, six were raised, repaired and returned to service later in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and one minelayer

Arizona: 1200 dead, exploded, sunk, left in place, with dead still entombed • Oklahoma: 429 dead, capsized, turned on side, raised, sunk while in tow to the coast of California • Two planes were able to get into the air, shooting down about 10 Japanese planes • When the ships started sinking, doors were shut in hopes of stopping sinking, pressure o fwater made it difficult to reopen them, drowning the men inside
