  6. Jim Dine quotes • “I appropriate things and make them mine. I’m a different person when I come back to them 20 years later, but they’re still mine.” (In this case, appropriate means to borrow or use. For example, Ms. Sirna appropriated some of of Mrs. Ragan’s sewing supplies.) • “For me, drawing is everything.. because it informs everything. It even informs my poetry. It’s the way I begin everything.” What objects does Dine appropriate in his work? How does Jim Dine plan his artwork?

  7. Jim Dine’s Hearts Why do you think that Jim Dine chose to show the hearts in so many different ways?

  8. Jim Dine’s Life Jim Dine had a special relationship with his grandparents. They owned a hardware store. This is why Jim Dine chose to show tools in some art works. He also liked to show hearts because he felt that everyone could relate to caring about something. He said that the most important thing was not that the objects he painted were “popular” images, but that they were personally relevant to him.

  9. More of his work… One of the images shows a 3D sculpture, one shows a 2D drawing. Which is which?

  10. Large Scale Sculpture What storybook character is this?
